Alibaba looking for second listing in Hong Kong

Bloomberg news have reported that US -listed, Chinese e-commerce leader, Alibaba Group is exploring a potential second listing in Hong Kong, as early as the second half of 2019, that could raise $20 billion as Beijing seeks to encourage its tech titans to list closer to home. This listing is intended to help Alibaba “diversify funding channels and boost liquidity.”

Indian forces brutally injure at least 90 in occupied Kashmir

At least 90 people have been injured after Indian occupying forces opened fire on a crowd protesting against the ‘cordon and search’ operation in Tazipora area of Kulgam district in the Indian-occupied Kashmir. Indian troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on the crowd, critically injuring over six dozens of them. Many of the injured had been admitted to the Kulgam hospital.

Pakistani climbs world’s 4th highest peak without supporting oxygen

Sirbaz Khan has become the first Pakistani to successfully ascend the world’s fourth highest mountain, Mount Lhotse’s 8,516 meters high peak on Nepal-Tibet border, without using supplemental oxygen. Sirbaz completed the summit on May 14 at 9:47 am, and his team was the first to scale Lhotse this year as they fixed ropes along the peak to open the mountain for other climbers.

MNA Mohsin Dawar arrested from North Waziristan

Law enforcement personnel have arrested MNA Mohsin Dawar, in North Waziristan, in the aftermath of Kharqamar clash on May 26, in which three people were killed and fifteen injured as a check post in Boyya area was attacked during a protest. According to the Army’s media wing, Dawar and MNA Ali Wazir were leading PTM which attacked the check post.

PM Imran approves increase in taxes on cigarettes

PM Imran Khan has approved a plan to increase taxes, introduce a health tax of Rs 10 per pack and remove the third slab of FED on the cigarette manufacturing industry, in the upcoming budget for 2019-20, in a bid to to enhance revenue collection and discourage the use of cigarettes. He also decided to end Tax-free cigarette facility for important government offices.

Man murders HIV-positive wife in Shikarpur accusing her of cheating

A man killed his HIV-positive wife in the Shikarpur district of Sindh, after accusing her of having extramarital affair. The 32-year-old mother of four was strangled with a rope and then hunted on the tree outside the home, the police reported. Shikarpur district neighbours Larkana district were HIV epidemic recently took place. The police have taken the suspect under custody.

PCB reiterates support for Inzamam, Arthur; refutes media report

The PCB in a statement issued on Wednesday strongly refuted “fictitious” media reports that suggest the board has decided to part ways with chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Mickey Arthur. PCB in their statement have stated that the future of the chief selector, coach and the player support personnel will be reviewed following the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

PM proposes death penalty for child abuse

Firdous Ashiq Awan recently informed that PM Imran Khan has proposed death penalty be fixed for all those involved in child abuse cases. Showing concern over rise in incidents of child abuse, PM addressed in detail the ministries of human rights, law, and interior, and gave them the responsibility of examining and analysing the existing juvenile laws concerning child abuse.

Fawad Ch. says Huawei has almost launched 5G in Pakistan

Fawad Ch. believes that Huawei, China’s biggest smartphone and technology manufacturer, has almost launched 5G technology in Pakistan. In a recent press conference, while talking to media about the benefits of 5G technology and its revolutionary impact, he said, “when 5G tech will arrive, not arrive but it’s almost launched by Huawei in Pakistan, they are building the basics”. 

PCB not to renew contract of Mickey Arthur and Inzamam

The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided not to renew chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and head coach Mickey Arthur’s contracts, which ends with the conclusion of World Cup in mid-July. Former captain Aamir Sohail is already being considered as the chief selector in place of Inzamam, while it yet to be decided if a foreigner or a local player will replace Arthur.
