In an effort to focus on virtual worlds, Facebook has changed its name to Meta. The company’s decision comes amid a wave of criticism following the leak of tens of thousands of internal documents. The social-media company is working hard to rebrand itself as the forward-thinking creator of the “metaverse” and distance itself from a struggling business.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg asked users to rethink their perceptions of the company during a 75-minute online presentation. He pointed out that the company has outgrown its problematic and ubiquitous social media app. Moreover, he said that the application will continue to be called Facebook.
