Chairman PTA orders to arrest social media users sharing inappropriate content

The chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Amir Azeem Bajwa has recommended that social media users be arrested if they continue to post “inappropriate content” on the social media app “Tik Tok”. It was suggested in the context of immoral and insensitive content found on the app since its introduction in Pakistan.

Bajwa claims that there have been 1 million reports received in response to the links and videos. It is crucial to ensure that the content posted on social media does not defy the societal norms and values of the country in which the app is being used, he said. PTA watchdogs have also banned dating apps before. In addition, the authorities asked YouTube to block content that violates Pakistani social norms.
