Careem partners with WOW to create jobs for female bikers

Careem and Salman Sufi Foundation have entered into a strategic partnership to train 10,000 females to ride bikes and subsequently on board them on the Careem platform. Through the partnership Careem will be creating jobs opportunities for the female bikers and help them achieve financial independence. Careem will also be introducing a new vehicle type in its application that will have female bike Captains catering to female customers only. 

PayPal confirms it’s not coming to Pakistan

In a huge blow, PayPal has informed the government officials that Pakistan is not in its road map for the next three years citing inadequate business opportunities. Ministry of Information Technology’s delegation visited the PayPal headquarters last month in a bid to convince the higher-ups of the payment gateway as it would be highly beneficial for the local freelancers. 

Personal data of users discovered on an unsecured Google server

A security researcher has recently discovered an unsecured Google cloud server with personal information of over 1.5 billion people. This massive 4 terabyte data cache contains people’s social media accounts, phone numbers, email addresses, and more. Most of the data was reportedly collected by a company named People Data Labs. However, the unprotected server didn’t belong to People Data Labs but was one of Google’s cloud servers about which Google refused to comment. 

Satellite imagery reveals Pakistan’s JY-27A radar that can detect stealth jets

A US-based defense weekly, Jane’s 360 has revealed that Pakistan now possesses a state-of-the-art radar system. The defense analysts have identified a JY-27A counter-very-low-observable (CVLO) radar at Mianwali Air Base of Pakistan Air Force. The jamming-resistant and highly mobile VHF radar uses an active phased array antenna capable of detecting stealth aircraft like F-22 from a distance of 500 km.

Bykea launches offline ride hailing service

Bykea, best known for its bike ride-hailing app has introduced a new feature that would help Bykea Driver Partners earn more while being effortlessly simple for the customer. Whenever a driver-partner spots a potential passenger waiting for a bus and/or a cab in the public, he can approach the person and give them a ride using this new Offline Rides feature even if the passenger is using an old feature phone.

Uber to record audio during all rides

Uber has confirmed that it is working on a safety feature that will record audio in all rides. The feature will be piloted in some Brazilian and Mexican cities next month. The new audio-recording feature will allow drivers to automatically record all rides. Riders will also be able to activate the feature via the app’s safety toolkit before entering the car.

Govt all set to manufacture SIM and smart cards in Pakistan

Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) is all set to manufacture SIM and smart cards locally for the first time in history, on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The MoIT has acquired the technology to manufacture these cards in Pakistan adhering to the quality standards as they were being imported from China and other countries previously, which would help reduce the imports bill of the telecom sector.

Chinese company, Vivo has taken one step forward and started working on the 6G enabled Smartphones, when the whole world is eagerly waiting to finally use the 5G technology. The company is leading in the research and development of 6G technology. The 6G will solve the new rising challenges in communication, including future growth of data, AI technologies, and IoT devices

Google accidentally breaks Chrome with an experimental update

Google Chrome’s experimental power-saving feature dubbed ‘WebContents Occlusion’, was silently rolled out to many users around the world and was developed to improve the overall browsing experience but it ended up burning millions of dollars. Even though the average home user was not affected, thousands of enterprise users were left without service and complained they lost a day and half of the work which affected their whole month’s revenue. 

IT Ministry to launch “Baytee” mobile app for women

The federal government has taken another big step towards empowering Pakistani women with the launch of the “Baytee” program. A mobile application will serve as a centralized information hub regarding important services for women according to senior officials of Ministry of Information Technology. The application will provide news about laws and regulations regarding women rights, help them find nearby jobs, scholarships, nearby health services and information about police stations and hostels.
