PSL 2020 matches to resume in November: PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the remaining matches of the fifth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) would be played in November. The PSL matches were suspended on March 17 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The four matches will be played in Lahore on November 14, 15, 17 with only the Qualifier and Eliminator 1 to be a double-header.

National cricket team is taking its motivation from Ertugrul: Azhar Ali

After politicians and actors, Pakistani cricketers are also hooked to the Turkish TV blockbuster Ertugrul. Speaking to reporters via teleconference, captain Azhar Ali said that the series is being used as an unlikely motivator for the Pakistan team ahead of their must-win third Test clash against England. “There is hardly any player who is not watching Ertugrul,” said Azhar. 

Halime Sultan could be the next brand ambassador for a PSL team

Turkish series Dirilis Ertugrul’s popularity in Pakistan has reached unmatched levels and heightened admiration for Halime Sultan could be leading her to Pakistan Super League (PSL). In a Tweet, Esra Bilgic AKA Halime Sultan, hinted that she might be joining Peshawar Zalmi as a brand ambassador. Earlier the owner of the franchise, Javed Afridi, had also hinted the same on Twitter. 

Hafeez contradicts PCB, produces negative COVID-19 test report

All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has tested negative for Covid-19, a day after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said he along with seven other players have contracted the disease. In a Tweet, Hafeez clarified that a subsequent examination at a private laboratory in Lahore had cleared him. He added that his family had also tested negative and attached a picture of his medical report.

Former Sri Lankan Sports minister claims 2011 World Cup was ‘sold’ to India

Sri Lanka “sold” the 2011 World Cup final to India, the country’s former sports minister said on Thursday. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who was sports minister at the time, is the second senior figure to allege the final was fixed, after 1996 World Cup-winning skipper Arjuna Ranatunga. Aluthgamage said he “did not want to disclose” the plot at the time.

Town is Australia names streets after legendary Pakistani cricketers

An upcoming housing estate in Melbourne, Australia has named its streets after legendary cricketers from around the world, including some famous names from Pakistan. The streets in the Rockbank Suburb have been named after Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Inzamamul Haq, Javed Miandad and Shoaib Akhtar. Property Developer Varun Sharma revealed that after naming the streets, the inquiries doubled in number.

Daren Sammy outraged after realizing what ‘kaalu’ means, calls out racism at IPL

Daren Sammy is calling out the racism he experienced while playing in Indian Premier League (IPL). Sammy took to Instagram to express his outrage upon realising the term ‘kallu’ was not a praise like he had assumed. “I just learnt what Kallu meant when I played for Sunrisers in IPL. They called me and Perera by that name. I thought it meant Strong Stallion.”

Europe looks to reopen as football resumes in Germany

Football in Germany kicked off again, becoming the first major sports league in the world to resume play, as parts of Europe took more tentative steps towards normality after the devastation unleashed by the coronavirus pandemic. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte of Italy, however, said Saturday he needed more guarantees before the government can give the green light for the resumption of its top football league.

German football resumes as the Bundesliga becomes the first of Europe’s top leagues to swing back into action since the coronavirus lockdown. The German Football League (DFL) convinced Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country’s regional leaders to allow play to resume by agreeing to submit to an extraordinary set of guidelines to prevent infection.

Boxer Amir Khan says he won’t fight behind closed doors

Former world champion Amir Khan has said he won’t fight behind closed doors if boxing resumes during the coronavirus outbreak. British officials are looking at July as a possible return date for bouts, without spectators in venue. Amir added that even though there is big money but he won’t be able to do so as he needs fan base.
