PTI’s Azam Swati arrested by FIA for ‘controversial’ tweet against COAS

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator Azam Swati was taken into custody early Thursday morning by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime unit for allegedly making ‘controversial tweets’ against state institutions, including army chief. The FIA arrested Swati for “using false information” through his official Twitter handle, “which is likely to incite any Officer, Soldier, Sailor, or Airman in the Army, Navy or Air Force to mutiny”.

Centaurus Mall fire brought under control by timely efforts

The fire which erupted at Centaurus Mall in Islamabad was brought under control by the timely efforts of the rescue teams. The rescue teams safely pulled out the people trapped in the shopping mall from the back side of the building, after which the teams conducted a search operation inside the mall. Fire brigades and a helicopter were also called to douse the fire.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial remarked that Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, which sets the precondition for a member of parliament to be “sadiq and ameen” — honest and righteous — was a “draconian law”. The CJP made the remarks as the Supreme Court heard PTI leader Faisal Vawda’s appeal against his disqualification for life, under the article.

Maryam Nawaz and her spouse acquitted in Avenfield case

The Islamabad High Court on Thursday set aside the conviction of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz and her spouse Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar handed down by an accountability court in the Avenfield reference four years ago and acquitted the couple. In July 2018, the accountability court had sentenced Maryam to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of two million pounds on her.

6 Pakistan Army officials martyred in Harnai helicopter crash

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday that six Pakistan Army officials, including two majors, were martyred after a helicopter crashed during a flying mission near Khost in Harnai, Balochistan. The ISPR has yet to release details about the cause of the crash which comes more than a month after a similar incident occurred in Balochistan.
