The Foreign Office has strongly condemned recent incidents in Sweden and Norway in which copies of the Holy Quran were reportedly burnt, stating respect of religious beliefs is “critical for global peace and prosperity.”. “The rise of such Islamophobic occurrences goes against the spirit of any religion. Freedom of speech can’t justify religious hatred,” Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri posted on Twitter.

Virgin Atlantic to begin flights in Pakistan, in a win-win deal for both

Virgin Atlantic Airways has announced plans for three new routes to Pakistan in December, as the struggling British airline continues its fight for survival during the Covid-19 downturn. Flights from London Heathrow to Lahore and Islamabad will be operated four and three times a week respectively, while Islamabad will also be served four times weekly from Manchester.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority asks YouTube to block objectionable content

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked YouTube to “immediately block vulgar, indecent, immoral, nude and hate speech content for viewing in Pakistan”. The PTA said viewing such content has “extremely negative effects” and can foster “repugnant discord”. YouTube did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and PTA declined to speak about the authority´s next step if YouTube does not comply.

Govt to enact new law to regulate Ruet-e-Hilal committee

The religious affairs ministry has decided to enact a new legislation regarding the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and frame a law regarding the Hajj and Umra in order to provide legal cover to the matters related to the pilgrimage. The proposed legislation suggested that no one would be allowed to announce the moon sighting on their own and violators will be fined and punished.

Israeli-American delegation to fly first commercial flight from Israel to UAE

An Israeli-American delegation will fly on the first commercial flight from Israel to the United Arab Emirates on Monday after a landmark deal between the countries. Jared Kushner, top aide and son-in-law to US President Donald Trump, has confirmed he will be on the flight, alongside National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien. Israel’s national Security Advisor Meir Ben Shabbat will be leading the “professional delegation”.

PTI government’s plan to clear Karachi’s nullahs, riverbeds to start in Sept

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said that he has reviewed the plan by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to clear Karachi’s nullahs and riverbeds and that work on it will begin by September. The federal minister revealed on Twitter that the work will be completed within one year and will “solve problem of Karachi drowning ever time it rains heavily”. 

Electric buses to start operating in Pakistan this year: Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has announced that electric buses will operate in Pakistan from this year. The minister took to Twitter to share a Strategic Alliance Agreement between Daewoo Express and Skywell Automobile, China, according to which an electrical vehicles value chain will be set up in Pakistan.
