Twitter bans sharing photos and videos of people without their consent

Twitter said in a blog post that it has banned sharing pictures and videos of private individuals without their consent. The microblogging platform notes in its privacy policy that these kinds of media can be removed by contacting them. The policy does not apply to public figures whose tweets or articles are relevant to the public.

The site may remove content featuring those people if the site determines that it was shared “to harass, intimidate, or use fear to silence them.” Twitter said that if the image or video is publicly available, has been covered by news outlets, or contributes to public debate, it may be permitted to stay on the site.
