Pakistan and Russia have agreed to a joint venture to enhance the cooperation for the upgradation and modernisation of Pakistan railways infrastructure. During a plenary session of the 6th Pak-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation here, the two sides resolved to increase volume of bilateral trade through enhanced business activities by their private sectors.

Two FIRs have been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act against more than 250 lawyers who attacked Lahore’s Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) on Wednesday. The lawyers tortured doctors and attendants, and damaged hospital property and police vehicles in order to avenge a group of lawyers who were beaten at PIC a few weeks ago. The attack resulted in death of three patients at the facility.
The auto sector continued its downward trajectory in sales in November 2019, with a decline of 44% in the first 5 months of the current financial year compared with last year. Overall, the auto-sector sold 49,110 units as compared to 87,897 units in the same period of last year. In this period, Toyota’s sales went from 24,119 units to 10,090 units and for Honda, they fell from 20,094 units to 5,885 units.
In a bid to protect the people from fuel adjustment effects in electricity bills, the federal government is offering a subsidy of Rs. 242 billion to domestic consumers. According to Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information, Firdaus Ashiq Awan, only lifeline consumers, who use less than or up to 300 units (kwh) per month, have been given the tariff relief in recent months.
One of Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) planes has been damaged after landing at the Sialkot airport. The Boeing 777 which was flying from Jeddah to Sialkot was taxiing after the landing when one of its tires burst on a rough portion of the tarmac. The plane remained grounded at the airport for three hours and caused damage worth several hundred thousand rupees.
Pakistan, among other countries is already lined up to acquire the $25 million shoulder-winged turboprop-powered airliner known as Modern Ark 700 (MA700) with the ability to operate in complex flight environments. The 86 passenger capacity aircraft can reach up to 640 kilometres per hour having a range of 2700 kilometres making it ideal for PIA’s domestic flights.
The Islamabad Traffic Police is working on installing a smart signal system at the Kashmir Highway and replacing the conventional traffic signals in order to manage and monitor the city in a better way. In the first phase, the smart system will be installed at signals from G-7 to G-11 Kashmir Highway including the junction of Kashmir Highway at 7th Avenue, G-9, G-10, H-11 and G-11
The shuttle train service between Lahore and Wagah Railway Station will take Lahoris to Wagah for Rs30. The train, named ‘Rail Car’, can carry more than 200 passengers. Two passenger trains and a break van have been added to the train. Rail Car will leave Lahore thrice a day stopping at the Moghalpura, Harbanspura, and Jallo Park stations.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi boycotted on Monday Indian Minister VK Singh’s speech at the Heart of Asia conference in Turkey. As soon as the Indian minister began his speech, Qureshi rose from his seat and walked out of the hall. The boycott was in protest against the brutalities and the grave violation of human rights exercised by the India government in Kashmir, according to Qureshi.
