Dr Nudrat E. Piracha has become the first female lawyer from Pakistan to earn a Doctorate of Juridical Science. Abbreviated as SJD and equivalent to a research doctorate, the qualification is the most advanced degree in law. Dr Piracha is one of few women globally to have earned the qualification, which is awarded primarily to candidates with exceptional academic and professional credentials.
SHEIN, an international fashion platform of Chinese origin has come under fire for selling Prayer mats as casual carpets. The website was called out by Muslims around the world after multiple users noticed that prayers mats, with images of the Kaabah and Prophet Muhammad’s mosque, were being sold as carpets for decoration purposes. The items were labelled as “fringe trim carpets.”
The Muslim-American teenager of Pakistani heritage, Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan, has joined the Marvel’s Avengers for a blockbuster video game. Ms. Marvel, who has shape-shifting abilities, is the first Pakistani and Muslim representation in Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has terminated 52 of its employees on various charges, including fake or tampered degrees, breach of rules and unauthorised disclosure of official information to media. The organisation also awarded appreciation letters to 11 employees for showing dedication and commitment to their duty. PIA recently grounded 140 pilots after being accused of working with dubious licenses.
Host Waqar Zaka has said that he will be filing a petition in the Sindh High Court to lift the ban on PUBG. A crash between a van and the Shah Hussain Express train near Sheikhupura has left least 19 Sikh pilgrims and several other injured. The coaster carrying the Sikh pilgrims collided with the Lahore-bound train at a railway crossing near Sacha Soda. The Sikh pilgrims were from Peshawar and were visiting Nankana Sahib to condole the death of a relative.
The Lahore Grammar School has suspended two female teachers after a charter of demands drafted by students and alumni of the LGS 1A1 was presented to the director of the school. Those who were suspended included the names of main accused Ms Maira Omair Rana and Ms Rubina Shakil for turning a blind eye to the harassment cases brought before them.
The United States (US) has donated 100 ventilators in order to facilitate Pakistan to support its fight against Covid-19. The ventilators arrived in Karachi on July 2 and will be distributed in hospitals across the country. Made in America, the ventilators are valued at at least $3 million and reflect the latest in cutting-edge medical design and technology.
