Govt faces backlash after referring domestic violence bill to Council of Islamic Ideology

Government officials face backlash after sending the Domestic Violence Protection and Prevention Bill 2021 to the Council of Islamic Ideology for review. The majority of the public opposes this move since no woman is included in the Council of Islamic Ideology. However, Article 228 of the Constitution is meant to ensure that women are represented in CII.

Many have thereby complained that men should not solely be given the right to decide on a bill that mainly concerns women. A number of people also believed the bill was comprehensive enough to frighten men. However, most of the opposition has not mentioned which parts of the bill are un-Islamic. Despite this, it protects people from multiple forms of abuse with multiple protections.
