From a waiter at a restaurant in Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to a university graduate of SZABIST himself, Ansar Ali’s story is a perfect example of the power of community and how little efforts can go a long way. Ansar, who had a liking for education, was forced to drop out from high school and work after his father’s sudden demise.
Ansar was one of the most liked waiters at Zakir Tikka at LUMS and despite his circumstances, always met the students with a smile. Upon learning his story, some students at the university decided to raise money for Ansar’s education and support his family also meanwhile. Today, Ansar is about to graduate from SZABIST Islamabad with a BS in Accounting and Finance.
Ansar, who had to do his intermediate privately, kept a note on his room’s wall for motivation for the examination. It read: ”I will score 800+”. The hard work paid off as he bagged over 800 marks in the examination, landing an A grade.
When asked what message he would like to send to those who have huge dreams but come from humble beginnings, he said: ”It is important to remember that you must never give up and always remain focused.”
We wish Ansar the best of luck in his way forward and hope that he achieves what he strives for.
