Turkey has started constructing a naval warship for Pakistan, state-owned Anadolu Agency reported Sunday. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended a dual ceremony commissioning a new Turkish naval ship while starting construction of a ship set to be sold to Pakistan Navy. The warship commissioned for Turkish navy is named TCG Kinaliada while the one being built for Pakistan is named MILGEM.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointment of ambassador Munir Akram as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. Akram has served as Pakistan’s permanent representative to UN previously as well, holding the office for six years between 2002 and 2008 and will replace Dr Maleeha Lodhi, who has held the office of Pakistan’s envoy to UN since February 2015.

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has jumped up 60 points at the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020 to stand at 190-200 in the world. 36 kanals of land allegedly encroached upon by the Sharif family’s mills in Sahiwal some 37 years ago has been retrieved by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). Ittefaq Sugar Mills had encroached upon an area of state land measuring 36 kanals and made part of it in 1982. However, it (mills) had shifted its machinery to Rahim Yar Khan to set up another sugar mills.
The earthquake affected area of Mirpur experienced another aftershock, as unexpected rainfall put relief work to a halt. Pakistan’s top meteorologist, Mohammad Riaz, said the epicentre of the 4.4-magnitude tremor was 12 kilometres deep. The shallow tremor sent terrified people running into the streets as area residents huddled in the streets following the quake, some still barefoot, while others recited verses from the Holy Quran.
At least 37 people are now confirmed dead in the devastating earthquake that rocked Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Mirpur a day earlier as aftershocks continue in the region. The 5.6-magnitude earthquake – which also shook several cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) – injured 459 people of which the condition of 160 is reportedly critical, confirmed Mirpur’s district administration. Pakistan Army has started relief work in the area.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has banned use of mobile phones at Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar after a video showing passengers coming out of luggage conveyor belt went viral. The circular titled ‘use of mobile phones in restricted areas’ strictly directed employees against using mobile phones in lounges and aprons, adding that strict action will be taken in case of violation.
