Electric buses to start operating in Pakistan this year: Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has announced that electric buses will operate in Pakistan from this year. The minister took to Twitter to share a Strategic Alliance Agreement between Daewoo Express and Skywell Automobile, China, according to which an electrical vehicles value chain will be set up in Pakistan. 

Education Department to register religious seminaries in Sindh

Religious seminaries in the province of Sindh will now be registered by the government’s Education Department to formally recognise their academic services. The Sindh government would soon adopt a separate law for proper control and regulation of the religious seminaries, like the case of schools and colleges in the province. This decision was taken at a meeting of provincial Apex Committee of Sindh.

Pakistan, Afghanistan only two countries in the world with Polio cases

Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world with cases of Polio endemic as Africa was declared free of wild polio on Tuesday. All 47 countries in the WHO’s Africa region have eradicated the crippling viral disease, the last polio case was recorded four years ago in Nigeria. Although thousands of people across Africa still live with the effects of the disease.

According to Bloomberg, the rebound that’s helped make Pakistan equities Asia’s best performers since the end of March isn’t done yet. Pakistan’s KSE-100 Index is up 36% from the end of March, the best rebound among major Asian equity indexes for the period. The central bank’s aggressive cutting of interest rates this year has reduced the double-digit returns from fixed income and bolstered the bullish case for equities.

Pakistan manufactures high standards face shields for children as schools prepare to reopen

Pakistan is successfully manufacturing economical face shields of highest standards for school children as the government prepares to reopen educational institutes. These face shields are lightweight, washable with soap and water, provide full face protection, are comfortable to wear, non-resistant to breathing, and the first level of defense against splashes and mist. The cost of each shield is Rs. 150 to make it affordable.

48 hotels sealed in Naran, Kaghan and Shogran after staff tests COVID positive

The Mansehra district administration has sealed all hotels in tourist hotspots Shogran, Naran and Kaghan after several Covid-19 cases were reported among staff working at different hotels. The district health department had reported 47 Covid-19 cases at private hotels located in these spots. 48 hotels, including 22 main businesses and their respective branches, had been sealed at all three tourist spots.

PM Khan named Man of the Year by Jordan’s magazine, The Muslim 500

Prime Minister Imran Khan has been named Man of the Year 2020 by a Jordanian publication, The Muslim 500, for his efforts to ensure “lasting peace with India”. For Imran Khan, the magazine wrote that if The Muslim 500 was in print back in 1992 Imran Khan would have been nominated as Muslim Man of the Year because of his brilliant performance in cricket.

PM Imran approves specialised education in 400 higher secondary schools

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday approved a project to introduce specialised education in 400 higher secondary schools of the country. Presiding over a meeting, the prime minister gave his consent to the launch of Science, Technology, Engi­neering and Maths (STEM) project in collaboration with universities. Around 100,000 children schools will have access to education and training in modern sciences through this project.

80% Pakistanis believe coronavirus ‘under control’, no need be cautious: Gallup

Eighty percent of Pakistanis say the coronavirus pandemic is now under control and taking precautions is unnecessary, according to a survey by the pollster Gallup Pakistan.  Since numbers have slowed down considerably since June, “70% Pakistanis now consider the threat from coronavirus to be exaggerated.” The survey said 6 in 10 Pakistanis said COVID-19 was a laboratory-made virus.

Study shows 11% Pakistanis have developed protective immunity against COVID-19

 A recent study conducted in 25 cities shows that almost 11 per cent of Pakistanis have already developed protective immunity against the coronavirus. The “National Seroprevalence Study” which was initiated in July this year by the Health Services Academy revealed that the population of urban areas and people up to middle age are more protected against the disease.
