Pakistan’s World Cup dream comes to an end

Pakistan have been knocked out of the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup in England and Wales. Pakistan needed to dismiss Bangladesh for seven runs, after setting them a target of 316 runs at Lord’s, in order to qualify for the semi-finals of the mega event ahead of New Zealand on basis of a better net run-rate. 

PTI’s fired minister to be reappointed as a provincial minister

Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, who was removed as Punjab’s information minister in March will take oath as minister Friday evening at Governor House, Punjab. Chohan was removed after he made derogatory remarks against Hindus and will now replace Sibtain Khan as the minister of forestry, fisheries and wildlife. Khan is currently facing an investigation by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Pakistan stands number one in child pornography: Shireen Mazari

Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari has revealed that Pakistan, unfortunately, was number one in child pornography- a menace which has affected all strata of society. Speaking at the launch of Child Protection Campaign in Islamabad, Mazari emphasised the need to launch school level campaigns to create awareness among children as cases of child abuse are rising at an alarming rate.

Scam scanners at Lahore and Karachi airport for over one year

Security scanners at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore and Karachi’s Jinnah International Terminal have been out of order for past one year, putting lives of many at risk. However, the Airport Security Force (ASF) carries out a manual search of the vehicles instead. Reportedly, the scanners have not been fixed due to unavailability of required machinery in Pakistan.

#ArrestAntiPakjournalists becomes Twitter Pakistan’s top trend

A hashtag calling for arrest of journalists who mainly criticise ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Prime Minister of Pakistan and Pakistan Army, became top Twitter trend in Pakistan. The hashtag #ArrestAntiPakjournalists had been used or forwarded more than 28,000 times after dropping to second place in few hours. Some users even accompanied photographs of prominent journalists with the hashtag.

“Need to be realistic, but miracles can happen,” Sarfraz on scoring 500

Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has admitted that in order to qualify for World-Cup semi-finals the team needs a miraculous 500-600 score against Bangladesh. The 316-run win seems unrealistic, he said, but claimed that Pakistan will try its best to at least win. Pakistan will play its final league game against Bangladesh at Lord’s on Friday.

Scientists eliminate HIV in entire genome of lab mice for the first time

Researchers in USA have made a breakthrough in curing HIV virus after a third of their lab mice who were engineered to produce human T-cells were cured. The team will now test the technique in macaque monkeys, and hope to start human clinical trials in 2020. This two-pronged technique could be basis for first universal cure in humans.

PM Imran Khan to meet US President Donald Trump on July 22

Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal has revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will be going to Washington on invitation of President Trump and the two will be meeting on 22nd of July. During the premier’s visit, the focus will be on further improving the ties between the two countries. The two leaders will also talk about “important regional matters”.

‭PTI’s Azam Swati richest senator with assets worth over Rs1.85b: ECP‬

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Azam Swati is the richest senator in the country with assets worth over Rs1.85 billion, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). PTI’s Swati is followed by Senator Taj Afridi with assets worth Rs1.30 billion, while Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s (PML-N) Pervaiz Rasheed’s has the lowest valued assets at Rs2.3 million.

Singer Ali Noor critically ill and hospitalised with acute liver failure

Noori vocalist, Ali Noor is recovering from a severe bout of Hepatitis A after being hospitalised in Islamabad. The singer had reportedly contracted Hepatitis A which deteriorated into liver damage during treatment, due to which he had to be in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The singer might be needing a liver transplant, but only family members can donate.
