Maryam threatens to go on hunger strike outside Kot Lakh Pat jail

After government’s move to discontinue provision of home-cooked food, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz has threatened to go on a hunger strike outside Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore if her father Nawaz Sharif is not allowed to eat homemade food. She stated in a Tweet that she doesn’t trust these “oppressors” who can mix anything in his food.

Foreign Office calls reports about PM’s Russia visit for EEF ‘speculative’

Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal has laid to rest all reports of President Vladimir Putin’s invitation to PM Imran to the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). Calling the reports merely ‘speculative’, the spokesperson clarified in a Tweet that while both countries are in contact “at highest level”, any announcement about the meeting will be made formally at “an appropriate time”.

Iconic TV actor Zaheen Tahira passes away Tuesday morning

Veteran TV actor Zaheen Tahira passed away in Karachi at the age of 79. Tahira who had been ill since last one month, was admitted to a hospital in Karachi due to cardiac issues. She was put on a ventilator and was later shifted to the CCU. Celebrities used social media to request everyone to pray for her speedy recovery.

PM wants to stay at the ambassador’s official residence during US visit

Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly expressed desire to stay at the ambassador’s official residence instead of an expensive hotel during his three-day visit to Washington, starting on July 21. While staying at ambassador’s residence can considerably reduce the cost of the visit, neither the United States secret service nor the city administration appears “very receptive” to the idea.

Pakistan to issue visa on arrival to Qatari passport holders

Pakistan has allowed all Qatari passport holders immediate entry visas (tourist/visit) for one or several trips. The visa will be valid for 30 days which is extendable for an additional 30 days. However, the traveller needs to have valid passport for at least six months, a round trip ticket and cash equivalent of $1500 or valid credit card.

British Airways fined £183 million for theft of bank data of passengers

British Airways has been fined more than £183 million after computer hackers last year stole bank details from hundreds of thousands of passengers. The fine is equivalent to 1.5 % of British Airways’ turnover in 2017. During the 15-day breach, customer names, postal addresses, email addresses and credit card information were stolen. However, passport and travel details remained safe.

Man weighing 330 kg passes away after successful surgery

Noorul Hassan, a taxi driver from Sadiqabad, who underwent treatment in Lahore for health complications caused by obesity, passed away on Monday. Reportedly, Hassan was left unattended due to commotion in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after relatives of a dead patient wrecked havoc at the facility by breaking windows and switching off ventilators.

Nawaz not guilty, judge ‘blackmailed’ into issuing verdict: Maryam

PML-N leadership, along with Maryam Nawaz have come forward with a secretly recorded video of Accountability Judge Arshad Malik, who had in December 2018 sentenced Nawaz Sharif to seven years in jail. Video played at the press conference shows Malik confessing that that there was no proof of corruption against Nawaz and he was “blackmailed” into giving the judgement.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to transfer more than 2,500 of its officials between grade 14 and grade 22, in an attempt to break their nexus with businesses and improve efficiency. In order to achieve its target of collecting a massive Rs5.550 trillion in fiscal year 2019-20, people with tainted reputation are also being sidelined.

President Putin invites PM Imran for economic moot

Prime Minister Imran Khan has been extended an invite by Russia President Vladimir Putin to attend an economic conference in Vladivostok. The Eastern Economic Forum is scheduled to be held from September 4 to September 6 in Russia’s far eastern city. The EEF serves as a platform for the discussion of key issues in world economy and regional integration.
