The COVID-19 has again entered dangerous phase in Pakistan, experts have warned, while announcing that the second wave of the deadly virus had started in the country. The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), after continuous warnings of rising Covid-19 cases across the country, made it compulsory for all citizens to wear a face mask when stepping out of their homes. 

Almost 40% of international law students of UoL based in Pakistan marked failed

Around 40 per cent of Pakistani students enrolled in the University of London’s (UoL) external LLB online programme have been marked failed in their exams. The glitch occurred due to confusions surrounding the online examinations schedule. Results of several students have also been withheld for their assessment offence investigation. The university admits that there had been some unavoidable disruptions this year because of the pandemic.

Several Muslims trade associations globally have announced a boycott of French products, in response to recent comments made by President Emmanuel Macron on Islam. Earlier this month, Macron pledged to fight “Islamist separatism”, which he said was threatening to take control in some Muslim communities around France.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has written to Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, requesting a ban on Islamophobic content on the social media platform. The PM appealed a ban akin to the Facebook ban on posts that deny the Holocaust. Khan wrote to Zuckerberg peppered with examples of recent anti-Muslim laws and statements from the Indian and French governments.

Pakistani man jailed in Dubai for offering Mercedes, Rolex as bribe to police

A Pakistani man was jailed for two years for offering a luxury car and his Rolex watch to a police officer in Dubai. Official police records showed that the man, who was arrested in June 2020 and could speak Arabic, had offered the officer Dh50,000, a Mercedes, Rolex watch and Dh20,000 monthly salary if he helped him to escape prison.

Two of nine sisters from Gujrat were turned boys after going through sex reassignment procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. Sex-change is considered a taboo in Pakistan, however, on the appearance of natural signs of the opposite gender, doctors do perform such procedures. The girls, aged 13 and 15, were brought from Gujrat due to their unusual physical constitution.

Award-winning Pakistani filmmaker, Shehzad Hameed Ahmad was recently honoured by United Women Singapore for championing the cause of gender equality through his films. Faysal Bank Pakistan recently introduced a new dress code policy which requires the female staff of the organization to wear hijaab and loose clothing. The order issued by the bank’s head office received a lot of flak over social media for being ‘discriminatory’ and ‘sexist’. However, the bank believes that modest dresses should be worn as ‘it is a cultural requirement.’

Pakistan decides to launch first over-the-top (OTT) TV, a local version of Netflix

The Pakistan Tehreek –e-Insaaf (PTI) led federal government has decided to launch the country’s first over-the-top (OTT) TV, the local version of Netflix. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain  revealed in a Tweet that the technology part is complete and have asked Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to prepare a guideline on content.
