Facebook removes Jamaat Islami official page over Kashmir march

Facebook  removed the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter’s official page from its platform, allegedly over the party’s promotion of its Kashmir March to be held on December 22. According to Ameer JI Karachi Naeem ur Rehman , the accounts admins of the page had also been banned following the page’s removal. Naeem-ur-Rehman took to twitter to register his protest saying Facebook cannot suppress their right of free speech in support of Kashmiris.

Islamophobic content meets “community standards”: Facebook

Facebook says that Islamophobic posts distributed through a clandestine network of far-right pages meet its “community standards”. It was alleged that an Israel-based group had gained access to at least 21 far-right Facebook pages to hate targeting Muslims. Despite revelations that the pages are part of a coordinated scheme profiting from hate and disinformation, Facebook told users that the posts were acceptable.

PIA fines a passenger over smoking for the first time in its history

A British-Pakistani passenger, travelling on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight, was briefly detained and then charged Rs. 10,000 fine for smoking during a flight. Ahsan, a chain-smoker, went to the airplane’s lavatory to smoke a cigarette or two and was caught when other passengers saw the smoke coming out. The crew confiscated his passport and was briefly detained by the Airport Security Force (ASF) upon landing at Islamabad International airport. 

Pakistan grants visa-on-arrival facility to 25 more countries

Pakistan has decided to grant the facility of visa-on-arrival to tourists from 25 countries taking the number to 50 countries. Vice Chairman Overseas Pakistanis Commission, Chaudhary Waseem Akhtar revealed the news on Monday, stating that the incumbent government has undertaken numerous initiatives to boost tourism in the country. The initiative will also project a soft image of Pakistan on the global stage.

Zardari’s brain has shrunk: says PIMS spokesperson

 A new medical board constituted to physically examine former president Asif Ali Zardari has claimed that the PPP leader’s brain has shrunk. According to the PIMS spokesperson, the board headed by Dr Mazhar Badshah carried out a medical check-up of the former president and MRI test was done too. The reason of the MRI report could be age or any other disease.

NEPRA slaps Rs.50 mn fine on KE for lacking safety standards

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has slapped a fine of Rs50 million on Karachi Electric Limited (KEL) for failing to maintain safety standards which led to 19 deaths in Karachi. NEPRA found that the deaths had occurred because of electrocution “due to lack of earthing of LT/HT poles and leakage of current from the distribution facilities of KEL.

Male insects infected with the Wolbachia bacteria do not bite, and when released into the wild to breed with females, their eggs do not hatch. SNGPL approves gas schemes worth Rs. 4 Billion for KP

Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) has approved gas infrastructure development projects worth Rs 4.05 billion for gasification of Karak, Kohat, Hangu, Charsadda and Peshawar. The Board of Directors (BoD) of SNGPL have approved gasification projects worth Rs. 1.94 billion for Karak, Kohat and Hangu districts. Out of the total project cost, major cost will be funded by SNGPL and the remaining by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
