Planes drop thousands of kilograms of carrots and potatoes for animals

Air planes are being used to drop thousands of kilograms of carrots and sweet potato to hungry wildlife stranded amid the Australian bushfire crisis. The New South Wales government commissioned the service titled ‘Operation Rock Wallaby’ which started a week ago and aims to feed the state’s colonies of brush-tailed rock wallabies. o far, they have dropped more than 2,200kg of fresh vegetables for animals living below.

Sania Mirza marks return with win after two-year maternity leave

India’s former doubles world number one Sania Mirza made a winning return to tennis  at the Hobart International after more than two years on maternity leave. The 33-year-old last played at the China Open in October 2017 before injuries and then the birth of son Izhaan in October 2018.  Mirza, partnered Ukraine’s Nadiia Kichenok to a 2-6, 7-6 (7/3), 10-3 victory over Georgia’s Oksana Kalashnikova and Japan’s Miyu Kato in the doubles.

Scientist from NUST becomes first Pakistani to get the IAPR Award

Dr. Faisal Shafait, a researcher from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) becomes the the first Muslim scientist to win the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) Young Scientist Award for 2019. Dr Faisal, currently serving in the Department of Computing at School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) is known for his outstanding contribution to document image analysis and computational forensics. 

Indian soldier ‘slips’ on snow and lands in Pakistan: reports

A junior officer of the Indian army posted in occupied Kashmir  accidentally ‘slipped’ in heavy snow and landed across the border into Pakistan last week, Khaleej Times has reported. The officer, identified as Havildar Rajendra Singh Negi, was on patrol duty in the Gulmarg area of Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) when the ‘accident’ occurred and Negi went missing.

Parliament passes Zainab Alert bill almost 2 years after the 7 year old’s brutal murder

The parliament has passed the Zainab Alert, Response, and Recovery Act, 2020, named after Zainab, a seven-year-old girl who had been abducted and murdered after rape in early 2018. The bill presented in the National Assembly eight months ago, has now been forwarded to Senate for final approval. The legislation was mandatory in the wake of increasing cases of child abuse in the country.

Iron Man could return to MCU: Robert Downey Jr.

Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. has revealed that hero character favourite Iron Man might one day return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Downey Jr. last appeared as Iron Man in the superhero team-up film Avengers: Endgame. Although his character Tony Stark died in the film, Downey Jr. doesn’t seem ready to close the door on a potential return.
