Johnson & Johnson announces to stop sales of baby powder in US, Canada

Johnson & Johnson has announced that it would stop selling talc-based baby powder in the United States and Canada.  Sales had already been hit by changing consumer habits and fears the product causes cancer. The Pharmaceutical giant has long denied claims that the talc powder it uses contains cancer-causing asbestos, but has nonetheless been taken to court several thousands of times over the allegations.

Apple, Google launch digital contact tracing system

Tech giants Apple and Google released an initial version of their software tool that will make it possible for 23 nations to release coronavirus contact-tracing apps. It will alert users when they came into contact with people who were COVID-19 positive. But authorities would have to stop requiring phone numbers from users under the companies’ rules.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced that its former superstar Shad Gaspard passed away at the age of 39. According to the sports-entertainment company Gaspard had gone missing while swimming with his son at Venice Beach in California on May 17. In his final act, he instructed his lifeguards to save his sin’s life. 

Oscars 2021 may be postponed due to coronavirus: report

Oscars 2021 could be postponed due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus in Hollywood, trade publication Variety reported. The movie industry’s biggest night is currently scheduled for February 28. But with theaters shuttered, blockbusters delayed and productions halted, the prize-giving Academy has already been forced to make significant rules changes. One of multiple anonymous sources told Variety it was now “likely” the ceremony itself will be postponed.

This 90-year-old Japanese woman runs a YouTube gaming channel

Hamako Mori is a 90-year-old Japanese woman who has been awing the YouTube community with her gaming skills since 2015. Her name is also registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world’s oldest YouTube gamer. Mori has been gaming for 39 years and her channel “Gamer Grandma” has over 270,000 YouTube subscribers where she posts a video every week.

People return home for Eid as Pakistan Railways resumes

Many people heaved a sigh of relief after Pakistan Railways partially resumed its services on Wednesday. Fifteen trains have been given permission to operate and take people to their homes at the time of Eid-ul-Fitr. The department has been taking only 60% of bookings through online bookings. Passengers have been asked to bring their own masks, gloves, hand sanitisers and soap with them.

Schools reopened in South Korea as coronavirus fears subsides

As the coornavirus fear subsided in South Korea, the schools reopened on Wednesday after a delay of two months. Students lined up for temperature checks and were given sanitisers to wash their hands as they entered school premises. South Korea endured one of the worst early outbreaks of the virus — at one point the second-worst hit nation. 

United States to upgrade Pakistani F-16 fighter jets

The United States Department of Defense (DOD) has approved an indefinite-delivery contract for Pakistani F-16 fighter jets. The contract has been awarded to Lockheed Martin. The contract involves Foreign Military Sales (FMS) for Sniper, Infrared Search and Track (IRST), and Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) navigation pod (fixed wing) hardware production.

Sindh launches educational app for students

The Sindh government launched a mobile educational application for kindergarten to grade five students in the province. The learning app can be downloaded on an android device. Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani said in a press conference that the students will be able to gain a real time experience through this application. The minister added that development was made as there were slim chances of reopening schools amid the pandemic.

Netflix’s Money Heist will be back with season 5, 6

Season five of the smash-hit Money Heist (or La Casa De Papel in Spain) has been confirmed by the show’s creator Alex Pina ahead of its return to Netflix. The news was confirmed by Pina, who told Deadline on May 13 how season five was coming but he couldn’t reveal any more details. He said if he does Netflix would put a bomb in his house.
