Wealth stashed by Pakistanis in Swiss banks falls by 50 per cent

A latest report has revealed that wealth stashed by Pakistanis in Swiss banks has fallen by 50% to the lowest level of $377 million in 2019. The money directly linked to Pakistani nationals stood at CHF359.6 million or $377 million in 2019. Pakistanis have been constantly withdrawing their funds from Swiss banks since 2015 when Pakistan and Switzerland finalised a revised taxation treaty. 

Work begins on first Hindu temple in Islamabad

Islamabad is all set to open its first Hindu temple, named as “Shri Krishna Mandir”, to promote interfaith harmony in Pakistan. The groundbreaking ceremony was performed by Parliamentary Secretary on Human Rights Lal Chand Malhi in the city’s H-9/2 area. Pakistan government will bear the cost of the construction of temple which is estimated at Rs100 million.

Pakistan partially resumes international flights after almost three months

Pakistan partially allowed international flights to resume on Sunday, in order to bring back more citizens stranded in other countries because of the coronavirus. Flight operation were suspended almost three months ago in order to curb the spread of the disease. Now the government has reopened 25% of the country’s airspace so that the citizens stuck abroad could return.

Coronavirus numbers, deaths grossly under-reported in Pakistan

Several statistical models, official statements, leaked government documents, and interviews with people in various cities suggest that the number of Coronavirus patients and deaths in Pakistan are grossly under-reported. The actual numbers will be two to three times more than the reported number and health experts worry the lack of accuracy in data collection was misleading people and creating apathy about the disease. 

Pakistan set to register 38 exporters with Amazon

In an effort to increase its e-commerce with outside world, Pakistan has sent a list of 38 exporters to US giant Amazon for registration. Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood revealed the news while chairing the second meeting of National e-Commerce Council on Thursday. Initially surgical, sports goods and home textiles exporters have been chosen only.

Bill seeks free 25 air tickets for parliamentarians’ families

 Parliamentary Affair Adviser Dr Babar Awan on Friday presented a bill in the Senate seeking parliamentarian’ free air travel privilege extended to their families. The Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances) (Amendment) Bill, 2020 aims at “ensuring the utility of 25 air tickets to the parliamentarians for their family members, sans any burden on the exchequer”.

Plasma donor refuses to donate after finding recipient is Shia

A recovered patient in Islamabad refused to donate his blood plasma after finding out that the recipient belongs to Shia sect. The middle-aged man at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was in a critical condition and  the family went out in search for plasma of a recovered patient. However, the donor immediately backed out after learning about details about the recipient.

Pakistani teenagers develop world’s first game to help fight Covid-19

Two self-taught Pakistani teenagers have developed the world’s first multi-platform game to help fight Covid-19 pandemic. STOP the SPREAD—developed by 13-year-old Nabhan and 14-year-old Kenan— will help bust myths and apply behavioural changes to embrace the “new normal” in an experiential learning simulation game. The kids started working on the game in February 2020, and released it online on April 4, 2020.

Fake Pakistani currency seized from officials of Indian High Commission

The police have confiscated fake Pakistani currency from an official of Indian High Commission during investigation of a hit and run case in Islamabad. The police seized fake 10,000 Pakistani rupees from official Silvades Paul. The tenure of the Indian High Commission official is to expire in December 2020, who was later handed over to senior diplomats of Indian High Commission.

Town is Australia names streets after legendary Pakistani cricketers

An upcoming housing estate in Melbourne, Australia has named its streets after legendary cricketers from around the world, including some famous names from Pakistan. The streets in the Rockbank Suburb have been named after Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Inzamamul Haq, Javed Miandad and Shoaib Akhtar. Property Developer Varun Sharma revealed that after naming the streets, the inquiries doubled in number.
