Pakistan reports lowest unemployment rate in South Asia: World Bank

The results of a survey based on the World Bank’s (WB) data, showed Pakistan as the country with the lowest unemployment rate in the entire region. According to the findings, 4.3 percent Pakistanis were unemployed, while regional rival and immediate neighbor India had the highest unemployment rate at 8%. Maldives’ unemployment rate was found to be 6.3% and Sri Lanka’s 5.9%

Scottish vlogger under fire for publicly shaming Seaview horsemen over petty fraud

Scottish vlogger Dale Philip drew the ire of Pakistanis online after he posted about getting three horsemen at sea view arrested for allegedly defrauding him. Philip tweeted about the incident along with a picture of a young horseman behind bars. He also uploaded a vlog detailing the same, titled “Avoid this horse ride scam in Karachi, Pakistan”. 

Federal, Balochistan governments and two international firms sign deal on Reko Diq

The federal and Balochistan governments and two international firms — Antofagasta PLC and Barrick Gold Corporation — have reached an agreement in principle on a framework to reconstitute the Reko Diq project, and a pathway for Antofagasta to exit the project. Through the agreement, government has claimed to have saved the country from $11 billion penalty in Reko Diq case.

Principal gets suspended for making female students dance

The principal and two teachers of the Government Girls High School Narowal were suspended for allegedly making students dance to an Indian song at a public event. As per details, the local administration held a ‘Jashan-e-Baharan’ festival a few days ago in Naimat Stadium, Shakargarh, where the students welcomed the chief guests with a dance performance.

Pakistan lifts all Covid-19 related restrictions across the country

Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has announced that the government was lifting all Covid-19 related restrictions across the country. Umar said that Pakistan “has come close to eliminating the pandemic, hence, all restrictions related to the coronavirus on weddings, indoor dining and markets, are ending.” He added, however, that all restrictions on those not vaccinated against the coronavirus would remain.

India ‘accidently’ fired supersonic missile into Pakistan

India said on Friday it had ‘accidentally’ fired a missile into Pakistan this week because of a “technical malfunction” during routine maintenance, giving its version of events after Pakistan summoned India’s envoy to protest. It was possibly a BrahMos missile — a nuclear-capable, land-attack cruise missile jointly developed by Russia and India. The missile was unarmed and had crashed near the city of Mian Channu.

Pakistani woman becomes first international artist to hold solo show in Madinah

Pakistani painter Rabia Zakir, this week became the first international artist to hold a solo show in Madinah. Zakir is well known in Islamabad’s diplomatic circles for her portraits of Arab leaders, including the Saudi crown prince and members of the royal families of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Her portraits and landscapes hang in 50 embassies in Pakistan. 

Father accused of killing his week-old daughter arrested by Police

A father from Mianwali, who was accused of killing his week-old daughter by shooting her five times has been arrested. Shahzeb Khan murdered his newborn daughter, Jannat Khan, in cold blood because he wanted a male offspring. Other family members were also present at the house where the incident took place, though the man escaped after pointing his pistol at them.

Pakistan expected to launch a Rs1 billion technology startup fund in March

Pakistan is expected to launch a Rs1 billion ($5.6 million) technology startup fund this month to support its startup ecosystem by providing seed funding to around 50 enterprises every year. Prime Minister Imran Khan last month announced establishing Pakistan Technology Startup Fund, allowing tax exemptions and 100 percent foreign exchange retention for IT companies and freelancers registered with Pakistan Software Export Board.

Pakistan helps “distressed” Indian students fleeing Ukraine on humanitarian grounds

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Thursday that Pakistan had helped “distressed” Indian students fleeing Ukraine on humanitarian grounds. Qureshi’s remarks come after videos surfaced on social media purportedly showing Indian students sitting down and eating with Pakistani students in a cafeteria-like setting. Calling it a “challenging situation”, the minister said that the Pakistani embassy was playing its due role.
