Oscar-winning Pakistani, Sharmeen Obaid, to become first woman and person of colour to direct a Star Wars movie

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a Pakistani-origin Canadian filmmaker, has made history by becoming the first woman and first person of colour to ever direct a Star Wars movie. It was revealed on Friday that Walt Disney Co has plans for three new films, including Obaid-Chinoy’s, which will feature Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey in a story set after the 2019 film, The Rise of Skywalker.

Laraib Atta, a visual artist and the daughter of legendary musician Attaullah Esakhelvi, is celebrating her team’s Oscar and BAFTA nominations for their work on James Bond’s latest film No Time to Die. Atta announced on her social media that her visual effects team bagged nods in ‘Best Visual Effects’ category at Oscars and BAFTA for the latest Bond film.

Oscars 2021 may be postponed due to coronavirus: report

Oscars 2021 could be postponed due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus in Hollywood, trade publication Variety reported. The movie industry’s biggest night is currently scheduled for February 28. But with theaters shuttered, blockbusters delayed and productions halted, the prize-giving Academy has already been forced to make significant rules changes. One of multiple anonymous sources told Variety it was now “likely” the ceremony itself will be postponed.
