The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held its 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) under the theme (Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice, and Development) in Islamabad on March 22-23, 2022.
As an integral member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Pakistan has hosted several OIC Summits and Council of Foreign Minister (CFM) in the past also.
The 1974 OIC meeting held in Lahore was a power show of Islamic world that never happened again.
On February 22 in 1974, Lahore hosted all the leaders of the Islamic world in the summit of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The city was jubilant as its hero Zulfikar Ali Bhutto presided over the summit, which some of the biggest names in the global politics of that time were attending.
During a meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee in Islamabad, it was decided that Pakistan will raise the incident of the Holy Quran’s desecration in Norway with Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Deeming all such provocative activities as unacceptable, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to to immediately contact OIC and inform it of the country’s reservations.
PM Imran Khan addressed the 14th OIC Summit in Makkah and stressed upon the need to separate Islam from terrorism. PM reflected that the Western World has equated radical Islam with terrorism and this has done tremendous amount of disservice to the Muslim world. The west has used the word radical Islam to define terrorism, which has lead to Islamophobia.
