ID cards in Pakistan will now be turned into digital wallets by NADRA

In line with government’s Digital Pakistan vision, the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is working to turn computerised national identity cards into digital wallets. The digital wallet will be a unique digital ID and will be added as an update to an already existing app, called the ‘Pak Identity’. This digital innovation will yield positive results in contactless banking, financial inclusion and ease of doing business.

FIA arrests five-member gang for hacking of email accounts of Punjab Police officers

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a five-member gang for hacking email accounts of Punjab Police officers to gain access to the private data of citizens and selling it on WhatsApp.  The gang had a network across Pakistan for sharing private data of citizens, including hacking, purchase, and sale of call detail records (CDR), ownership details, and National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) records.

NADRA proposes chip on CNIC to mark organ donors

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has proposed that a chip be installed on computerized national identity cards which will tell whether or not the CNIC holder wants to donate their organs. The proposal was made during the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice which met with Senator Javed Abbasi, discussed “The Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues (Amendment) Bill, 2018”. 

Nadra launches online registration facility for ID card

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched the online registration facility for ID cards. The new initiative from NADRA will let people register themselves in the country’s database from the comfort of their homes by filling in a few details on NADRA website.. The fee of online registration for an Identity card is PKR 560 for normal card and PKR 750 for the smart card.

NADRA decided to reserve every Friday for women

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has decided to reserve every Friday for women. Each Friday, NADRA officials will only issue CNIC cards to women.The people have appreciated NADRA’s initiative with Some saying that this empowers women in the country. Others suggest that women will more actively participate in the electoral process because of this measure.
