Pakistan braces for flood yet again after unusual monsoon rains in India

PMD’s Flood Forecasting Division has issued a flood warning in Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers following heavy monsoon rains in India. While Pakistan is already reeling from the devastating floods and economic crisis induced by it, another flood is likely to hit the country as water levels in the mentioned rivers are expected to rise significantly on 17 and 18 September.

Pakistan launches first underground water reservoir system in Lahore

Pakistan has launched its first underground water reservoir system to store water from seasonal rains and reduce flooding in Lahore. The project, titled “Monsoon Underground Water Reservoir”, took three months to be completed at Lahore’s Lawrence Garden. Built at the cost of Rs. 149 million, the water tank can hold up to 1.5 million gallons of water after a heavy downpour.

Karachi’s first spell of monsoon: 9 killed and buildings collapse

Rains in Karachi are no less than a menace for residents. Every year monsoon rains leave the city in darkness, with constant power outages, water clogged roads, collapsing buildings and several deaths. At least nine people were killed and several others injured due to rain in the metropolis on Monday. Building came crashing down and sewerage water overflowed in streets of Karachi DHA.
