Karachi drowns in misery as heavy monsoon rain wrecks havoc

Death toll from rain related incidents has reached six, as monsoon rain wrecks havoc Karachi, drowning sacrificial animals and people alike in misery. Roads across the city are flooded with rainwater, while electricity supply is suspended in certain areas. A rescue operation conducted by the Rangers is currently underway as the megalopolis experienced heavy monsoon showers for a second consecutive day.

PSL 2020: Final to be held in Lahore, opening ceremony in Karachi

The playoffs and final of fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be held in Lahore while Karachi will host opening ceremony on February 20. A meeting between franchise owners and PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani concluded with decision to play the entire fifth season in Pakistan. Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi have been picked as four cities to host entire tournament.

Asia’s biggest visa centre of UAE to open in Karachi

The ambassador of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hamad Obaid Alzaabi has revealed that the UAE Consulate will open a visa centre in Karachi this September. Opening first week of September, the visa centre will be UAE’s biggest facility in Asia. Similarly, another visa centre in Islamabad will be functional in October. The entire team for the centre would come from UAE.

Scam scanners at Lahore and Karachi airport for over one year

Security scanners at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore and Karachi’s Jinnah International Terminal have been out of order for past one year, putting lives of many at risk. However, the Airport Security Force (ASF) carries out a manual search of the vehicles instead. Reportedly, the scanners have not been fixed due to unavailability of required machinery in Pakistan.

Islamabad and Karachi among world’s least expensive cities

In a survey carried out by Mercerl, Islamabad and Karachi have been rated among least expensive metropolitans in the world. The survey is based on the cost of over 200 items in each city – including housing, transport, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment. Islamabad has been listed 203rd in the list of most expensive cities, while Karachi stands on 207.
