Islamabad doctors urge government to tighten lockdown in upcoming weeks

Doctors of PIMS Islamabad urged the government to tighten the coronavirus lockown in the upcoming weeks. All Employees Association Spokesperson Dr Asfand emphasised that the next few weeks were very crucial in controlling the deadly pandemic in the country. Dr Asfand pointed out that the doctors and paramedical staff working on the front line were aware of the actual situation caused by COVID-19.

There are 40 illegal housing societies in Islamabad, court told

There are 40 illegal housing societies in Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) told the Islamabad High Court on Thursday. A bench, headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah, was hearing a petition filed by a man challenging the CDA demolition notice of his farmhouse. Justice Minallah asked that CDA just issues notices to poor people but what about the illegal housing societies. 

FIA arrests two ATM hackers in Islamabad

The cyber crime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency has arrested two ATM hackers in Islamabad on Sunday. According to the FIA officials, they recovered thumb impressions of over 4,500 people in their laptop and a money transfer application in their cellphones. The officials said that the suspects had 10 cellphones and 13 sim cards which were being used for unlawful activities.

Court rejects Islamabad schools’ petition challenging 20% fee concession

The Islamabad High Court has rejected a petition filed against the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) for ordering educational institutions across Islamabad to reduce their monthly fees by 20%. On April 8, the PEIRA issued a notification instructing private educational institutions to cut their tuition fees for April and May by 20% due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Islamabad’s Bhara Kahu and Shahzad Town to be de-sealed

The Islamabad administration decided on Thursday to de-seal Bhara Kahu and Shahzad Town after almost three weeks. A notification, issued by the district magistrate, says that the step is being taken on the advice of the district health officer after “detailed survey, contact tracing, ground surveillance and testing of suspected individuals”.

Islamabad lifts ban on visiting hospital OPDs

The Islamabad district magistrate has lifted the ban on people visiting out-patient department of the hospital. The ban was imposed on March 24 to curb the spread of the coronavirus. According to an April 9 notification, the ban has been lifted but hospitals have to adhere to a set of SOPs given to them. They also have to make sure people are practising social distancing.

Authorities are supplying unsafe water to citizens of Islamabad

The water being supplied to the citizens of Islamabad from Simly Dam, Saidpur and Shangla is not being chlorine-treated for bacteria and is unsafe. This was revealed in a letter written by the Water Quality Control Cell (WQCC) to the director water supply Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI). The letter highlighted that all attempts of the cell to divert the MCI’s attention towards this severe issue went unnoticed.

Stones pelted at participants of Aurat March in Islamabad

The participants of Aurat March came under stone-pelting in Islamabad on Sunday. The incident occurred when two different rallies were held on the occasion of International Women s Day in Islamabad one of the rally participant tried to enter in Aurat Azadi March. Few people had managed to enter in Aurat march and pelted stoned on it as Police used tent to separate both rallies.

Two men arrested for supplying drugs to students in Islamabad

Two drug dealers were arrested for supplying drugs to university students in the jurisdiction of the Bahara Kahu police station in Islamabad, according to the police. More than one kilogramme of hashish was confiscated from them and the suspects identified as Arsalan and Babar, were planning to sell the drugs to students of universities and colleges across Islamabad.

PM Imran launches multi-billion Islamabad Blue Area project

Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the multi-billion Islamabad Blue Area commercial project. Taking to Twitter, the prime minister announced that the project will provide jobs and attract investment from overseas Pakistanis. The commercial auctions will be held from April 14-16 and the funds will be used to rehabilitate the city, in the provision of services and to improve the environment.
