On the eve of Pakistan’s 74th Independence Day, the government announced civil awards for 184 Pakistanis and foreigners, including a number of stars from the entertainment industry. The awards are given in recognition of their dedicated services to the country and for displaying excellence in their respective fields. While Pakistanis rejoiced most choices made by the government, one recipient irked a great deal of Pakistanis.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cyber crime wing has booked singer Meesha Shafi and eight others for launching a smear campaign against singer-actor Ali Zafar. The FIR against the suspects was filed for a non-cognisable offence on order of FIA special court. According to the FIR, the suspects were summoned multiple times to present their defence, failing which granted a cause of criminal proceedings against them.
Singer Ali Zafar has filed another petition in the Lahore sessions court seeking to have singer Meesha Shafi’s petition against him thrown out. In his petition, Zafar says Shafi filed a retaliatory defamation case against him, but the case against her is still being heard. He wants the court to order the hearings of her petition to be stopped. After hearing the arguments, the court reserved its verdict.
