Government to demolish Monal restaurant in Islamabad: Zartaj Gul

Minister for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul has said that the government has decided to demolish the Monal Restaurant on the top of Margalla hills in Islamabad. The restaurant, which is famous for its picturesque views is built on Margalla National Park, which is against environmental laws of the country. Margalla Hills area is included in the National Park where cutting down trees without permission is prohibited.

In May this year, the Islamabad administration sealed off Monal for new construction and cutting trees, and the Supreme Court also reprimanded the administration over the matter and ordered the demolition of the extension.

Gul said that the Federal government has is focused on preserving the 15 national parks across Pakistan along with completing the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project to increase the forest cover of the country.
