Prince Harry to potentially rejoin the British Army amid COVID-19

Prince Harry has served the British army for more than ten years and a result of his longstanding service, he could potentially be called back to rejoin the army in this time of unsettling chaos caused by COVID-19. News regarding this possibility came out after the army’s official website put out a notice stating, “We value your previous service, and if you’re thinking of coming back, there’s a job waiting for you”.  

Coronavirus puts an end to eating cats and dogs in China’s Shenzhen

After scientists suspected that the novel coronavirus was passed to humans from animals, the Chinese province of Shenzhen banned the eating of cats and dogs. According to research, some of the earliest infections were found in people who had exposure to a wildlife market in Wuhan where bats, snakes, civets and other animals were sold.

UAE lifts ban on VoIP services due to Coronavirus outbreak

UAE lifted the ban on various Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services to encourage the citizens to stay home amidst the coronavirus outbreak. Last week the government made Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business, Zoom, and Blackboard available in the country. A week after that, the government, realizing the importance of working from home in these testing times, has lifted the ban of Google Hangouts Meet, Cisco Webex, Avaya Spaces, BlueJeans, and Slack as well.

Van Gogh painting stolen from Dutch museum during virus shutdown

Painting worth six million euros ($6.6 million) by Dutch master Vincent van Gogh got stolen early Monday from a museum that was closed due to coronavirus shutdown The painting was on loan from its owners, the Groninger Museum in the north of the Netherlands, as part of an exhibition. According to the Dutch Police, Police officers immediately rushed to the scene but the perpetrators had escaped. 

Indian man flees home quarantine nude, bites elderly woman

An Indian man under home quarantine in Tamil Nadu,India ran out of his house nude and bit an 80-year-old woman on Friday. The police said the young man was in self-isolation after returning to his village from Sri Lanka. He fatally bit his elderly neighbour, who has hospitalised with neck injuries. She was hospitalised and died on Saturday. Neighbours overpowered the man and handed him over to the police.

UK Prime Minister tests positive for Coronavirus

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), has tested positive for coronavirus. According to an official statement, he has mild symptoms and will continue to lead the government while he’s self-isolated. Boris informed about his condition in a tweet earlier today, adding that he has gone into self-isolation. The premier will continue to lead the government’s efforts to control the spread of the deadly virus virtually.

Saudi Arabia stops Pakistan from signing Hajj agreement amid coronavirus outbreak

Saudi Arabia has told Pakistan not to prepare a Hajj agreement as the coronavirus continues to spread across the world. Saudi Arabia Hajj Minister Dr Saleh bin Taher Benten told the Pakistani government in a letter written on Thursday that there should be no agreement till the coronavirus situation is clear. He wrote that the Saudi government is taking measures to remain careful.

Gunmen attack Sikh religious complex in Afghan capital

Gunmen and suicide bombers attacked a Sikh religious complex in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Wednesday, and up to 200 people were believed to be trapped inside. Afghan security forces had blocked off the area and were taking on the attackers. It was not immediately clear how many attackers there were or who they were. It was not known if there were any casualties.

China decides to lift lockdown from coronavirus epicentre Wuhan

China has announced to lift the lockdown imposed on coronavirus epicentre Wuhan last December. The decision will come into affect from April 8 after which people will be able to leave the city and the Hubei province, the government announced on Tuesday. The development came after Hubei reported zero new infections on March 19. Previously, China had reported 80,000 cases and 3,200 fatalities from the virus.

Saudi Arabia imposes dusk-to-dawn curfew over coronavirus

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has announced a nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew from Monday in a bid to limit the spread of the new coronavirus. The curfew from 7 pm until 6 am will be imposed for 21 days. The move comes after Saudi Arabia on Sunday said the number of COVID-19 cases had jumped to 511, the highest in the Gulf. The kingdom has reported no deaths so far.
