A report published by an Australian think tank in March this year revealed that supply chains in China of almost 83 global brands are using Uyghur Muslims forced labor. The report released by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) titled “Uyghurs for Sale” stated names of big, well-known global companies in the field of clothing, technology and automotive sectors.

Brave Afghan girl kills two Taliban militants after they murdered her parents

A teenage Afghan girl shot dead two Taliban militants and injured several others after they murdered her parents outside their home. The insurgents stormed the house of Qamar Gul, in Tiwara district of Ghor province and killed her parents for supporting the government. Qamar then took took an AK-47 gun the family had and fought off the militants bravely.

Massive asteroid approaching Earth on July 24, says NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has warned of a massive asteroid, travelling at the speed of 48,000 kilometres per hour, is expected to whiz past Earth this week. According to NASA, “Asteroid 2020 ND” will move past Earth on July 24. Two other asteroids are also expected to whiz past Earth on Sunday named 2016 DY30 and 2020 ME3. 

85 infants under age 1 have tested positive for coronavirus in Texas so far

Eighty-five infants under age 1 have tested positive for coronavirus in one Texas county since mid-March. In Nueces County number of new coronavirus cases skyrocketed in July after a flattening trend. The virus has infected dozens of babies and local officials are urging people to practice caution.The spokespersons are using the statistic to illustrate that no one is naturally immune to this virus.

Mukesh Ambani surpasses Elon Musk to become world’s 6th richest person

India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani has now become the world’s sixth-richest person with a worth of $72.4 billion. The chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd. has surged past Silicon Valley tech titan Elon Musk, Alphabet Inc. co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page and Warren Buffett. Shares of the conglomerate have more than doubled since March after investments from Facebook Inc., Silver Lake and Qualcomm Inc.

UAE to make history by becoming first Arab nation to send mission to Mars

The United Arab Emirates will make history on Wednesday by becoming the first Arab nation to send an interplanetary mission to Mars. “Hope” — or Al-Amal in Arabic — is expected to reach Mars’s orbit by February 2021, marking the 50th anniversary of unification of United Arab Emirates, an alliance of seven sheikhdoms. The UAE’s Mars probe will not land on the Red Planet.

Kazakhstan denies reports of spread of deadly ‘unknown pneumonia’

Authorities in Kazakhstan have denied a report published by Chinese officials that the country is experiencing an outbreak of “unknown pneumonia” potentially deadlier than the novel coronavirus. The Kazakhstan health ministry said that the “unspecified” pneumonia classification followed World Health Organization guidelines “for the registration of pneumonia when the coronavirus infection is diagnosed clinically or epidemiologically but is not confirmed by laboratory testing.”

Bill Gates has called for Covid-19 drugs and an eventual vaccine to be made available to countries and people that need them most, not to the “highest bidder”. The billionaire philanthropist said that relying on market forces would prolong the deadly pandemic. He stated that leaders needed to make hard decisions about distributing based on equity.

‘Please scream inside heart’: Japanese riders expected to ride roller coasters calmly

Newly reopened theme parks in Japan are asking riders not to scream on roller coasters. The recommendation against screaming — along with use of masks — is included in guidelines issued by the country’s theme-parks associations as a means of preventing the spread of the coronavirus, and most parks are following suit. Hunger will cause more deaths than COVID-19 itself: International body Oxfam

Poverty and hunger resulting from the novel coronavirus crisis can lead to more deaths than the disease itself, Oxfam warned. According to an Oxfam report, The Hunger Virus, Covid-19 is “deepening the hunger crisis in the world’s hunger hotspots” like Venezuela and South Sudan. Additionally, the health crisis is giving birth to new “epicentres of hunger” across the world.
