A remote-controlled car race on the lunar surface is due to take place in 2021

A remotely-controlled car race will now be held on the Moon in 2021, reports New Atlas. Moon Mark, a multimedia and education content company in collaboration with Intuitive Machines, the global leader in commercial space and airborne systems are pulling in some extraordinary resources to plan the race. The two racecars will be partially designed by high school kids, and McLaren P1 designer Frank Stephenson.

An Australia-based Pakistani computer scientist, Shazia Sadiq, has been recognized for innovative STEM research by the prestigious Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE). ATSE has recognized Shazia for her work which focuses on developing solutions for Business Information Systems to more effectively process information, significantly improving business process management, governance, and risk and compliance data.

Pakistani lecturer named among world’s top computer science researchers

Pakistani lecturer Dr Mubashir Husain Rehmani has been named in the world’s top 1% researchers in the field of computer sciences. Rehmani’s work focuses on wireless networks, blockchain, cognitive radio networks, and software-defined networks. He has written over 100 peer-reviewed articles, of which 12 were among highly cited articles by Clarivate. The professor’s research work has been recognised internationally and has received multiple best paper awards.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) planning to auction 254 huts at Hawke’s Bay Beach

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) plans to auction 254 of its huts at the Hawke’s Bay Beach to increase its revenue. Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani cancelled the allotment of all the corporation’s huts at the beach. The land department was instructed to take control of the huts. Notices were issued to the allottees and the KMC says it will take action against defaulters.

Nike and Coca-Cola press Congress to alter legislation banning products made by Uyghur Muslims in China

Nike and Coca-Cola are lobbying Congress to weaken a bill that would ban imported goods made with forced labor in China’s Xinjiang region. The legislation, called the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, has become the target of multinational companies including Apple whose supply chains touch the far western Xinjiang region, as well as of business groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Over 4,500 Pakistan Steel Mills employees laid off by te government

The country’s biggest industrial complex – the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) – has  laid off over 4,500 of its employees. The employees – 4,544 in total – were fired in the wake of an emergency meeting chaired by the PSM chief executive officer (CEO) at the CEO Secretariat. The management has started the process of sending termination letters to the residential addresses of the sacked employees.
