TikTok ‘makeup tutorial’ calling attention to China’s treatment of Uighurs goes viral

A three-part series on TikTok by an Afghan-American teenager has gone viral for spreading awareness of China’s treatment of at least a million Uighur Muslims. Feroza Aziz, 17, who uses TikTok to upload makeup tutorials, has claimed her videos are being censored. Feroza begins by appearing to show viewers how to use an eyelash curler and then urges them to search what’s happening in China.

PTA hires security agency for Cyber-Security Audit of new web monitoring system

The government has involved a security agency to conduct a comprehensive cyber-security audit and vulnerability assessment of the foreign developed Sandvine Inc Web Monitoring System (WMS).Some concerns were raised about possible security vulnerabilities of the foreign-made system. Therefore necessary written guarantees were acquired from the selected vendor and the OEM ensuring that there are no backdoors or cyber-security risks in the system

Pakistan signs $787 mn loans with World Bank, majority for Karachi uplift.

Pakistan and the World Bank have signed five loan agreements of $787 million for development projects, majorly directed to uplifting Karachi. The World Bank will provide $652m for three development projects in Karachi to support urban mobility, urban management and service delivery, improve water and sewerage services, tourism and power sectors. Highest amount of $382m was inked for Karachi Mobility (Yellow Line) Project.

Pakistan’s Major Samia Rehman wins UN’s SRSG certificate of the year

Pakistan Army’s Major Samia Rehman has made the country proud by winning this year’s United Nations Special Representative for Secretary-General (SRSG) Certificate of the Year. MONUSCO Force Acting Commander, General Thierry Lion, presented Samia with the certificate on behalf of SRSG for her exceptional performance in Mission Level Studies, Analysis, and valuable contributions. 

Lt Gen (retd) Asim Bajwa appointed chairman of CPEC Authority

Despite opposition’s criticism of the newly formed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (CPECA), the government announced the appointment of retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa as its chairman. The government had established the CPECA in October to ensure timely completion of the CPEC projects. The prime minister has said the CPECA will help ensure coordination among the departments concerned.

Faisalabad airport is getting self check-in kiosks

In a bid to upgrade the facilities at Faisalabad International Airport, the administration is in the process of installing self-check-in kiosks to facilitate the passengers. The kiosk applications are being installed in both domestic and international halls to save passengers’ time and effort. Using the kiosk, you will be able to identify yourself with your passport or ID, confirm flight information, review seat arrangments, print boarding passes. 

Indian Sikh donates his land for a mosque

An Indian Sikh merchant, Sukhpal Singh Bedi, has donated his 900 square foot land for the construction of a mosque in celebration of Babar Guru Nanak’s 550th birthday and Pakistan’s inauguration of Karatarpur corridor.He handed over the documents of the land to Zahir Farooqui, the Nagar Panchayat Chairman. Farooqui thanked Bedi on behalf of the Muslim community for his gracious act.

Toshiba devises an affordable test to diagnose cancer

Toshiba, under its new five-year business strategy, has developed a technology that uses microRNA molecules in the blood to detect cancer. The company has come up with a new technology that can detect 13 different types of cancer with 99 percent accuracy in less than 2 hours. Using a chip and a small device to conduct the diagnosis and it will cost $180 per test that can be used to efficiently detect different kinds of cancer cells. 

Pakistan offers security for 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Pakistan has offered Qatar to provide security for the FIFA World Cup scheduled to be held by the Gulf state in 2022. President Arif Alvi made the offer and highlighted that there was a lot of scope in the field of defense exports and joint production ventures.  According to him Pakistan’s armed forces had a vast experience in the field of security and professionalism, and could provide security for the Football World Cup 2022.
