Facebook has agreed to expedite information sharing with Pakistani authorities in connection with investigations in cyber crime cases. A team from Facebook’s Asia Pacific headquarters visited the office of Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wajid Zia to discuss issues of cooperation and data sharing between FIA and Facebook. The two teams discussed mutual collaboration and cooperation in data sharing as well as cyber crime awareness among social media users in Pakistan.
Mount Merapi volcano in Indonesia erupted on Tuesday, sending a 6-km column of ash into the air and triggering the closure of the airport in the nearby city of Solo on the densely populated Java island. Indonesia’s Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation issued a red alert and said the ash cloud was moving north.
Britain’s Royal Mint unveiled on Monday a seven-kilogramme gold coin with the highest face value in its 1,100-year history in honour of the latest James Bond film. The one-of-a-kind new coin celebrating the release next month of the 25th movie in the legendary franchise No Time To Die has a face value of £7,000 ($9,000). At 185 millimetres in diameter, it is also the largest coin ever made by the Royal Mint, Britain’s official coin-maker.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s founder Altaf Hussain is selling his London secretariat on London’s Edgware road for £1,000,000. Hussain is selling the MQM’s international secretariat to raise money for his court trial in London on the charges of encouraging terrorism during one of his speeches in August 2016. The trial will begin on June 1.
Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) petition regarding giving exemption to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif from appearing in the hearings.
NAB prosecutor told that accountability court had granted permanent exemption to Shehbaz Sharif on January 17 in Ashiana Iqbal and Ramzan Sugar Mills references. He further requested the that the court should annul this decision and nd direct PML-N president to rejoin the trial.
The KSE-100 index recovered 1312 points, closing at 39,296 on Monday, this marked the highest intra-day positive change of 3.34% since May 22, 2019. Analysts have cited a number of positive developments in the region to explain the recovery. Of them, the US-Afghan peace deal is being dubbed a key factor, while the cut in inflation rates and oil fuel prices are also said to be a reason.
The Pakistani authorities sealed the Pak-Afghan Chaman border Monday morning over fears that the coronavirus would be spread to the country. It has been sealed for an initial period of seven days and could be extende as Afghanistan has also reported coronavirus cases. So far, the authorities have just sealed the Chaman border. The border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is still open.
The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh Karachi has suspended the registration of over 25 schools in Karachi for not shutting down on Monday. The Sindh government announced that all schools in Karachi would remain closed till March 13 in a bid to prevent students from coronavirus. Private schools director-general Mansoob Siddiqui had ordered inspection teams to check whether schools were open.

The Taliban said they were resuming offensive operations against Afghan security forces, ending the partial truce that preceded the signing of a deal between the insurgents and Washington. It ran for one week ahead of the signing of the historic accord in Doha on Saturday, and continued over the weekend. Under the terms of the deal, foreign forces will quit Afghanistan within 14 months.
