Authorities are supplying unsafe water to citizens of Islamabad

The water being supplied to the citizens of Islamabad from Simly Dam, Saidpur and Shangla is not being chlorine-treated for bacteria and is unsafe. This was revealed in a letter written by the Water Quality Control Cell (WQCC) to the director water supply Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI). The letter highlighted that all attempts of the cell to divert the MCI’s attention towards this severe issue went unnoticed.

Petrol prices to drop by Rs. 20-25 soon: Reports

According to media reports, drop in the prices of petroleum products is expected with a PKR20-25 decrease in the price of petrol. This follows as the world reels from the plunge in oil prices as Saudi Arabia and Russia continue their price war. Nadeem Babar, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum said that this will not only ease inflation but will also  boost the economy of Pakistan. 

Sindh confirms two new cases of coronavirus, tally jumps to 18

Two more persons have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus in Sindh, taking the total number of the COVID-19 infections in the country to 18. According to Sindh Health Department, one of the infected persons reached Karachi from Syria via Doha while second patient, who is resident of Hyderabad, arrived in Karachi from Iran via Dubai. Qatar bans entry from Pakistan, 13 other countries over coronavirus

Qatar has temporarily banned entry from Pakistan and 13 other countries to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus. Entry has been temporarily suspended for people from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria and Thailand. The country’s Government Communications Office made the announcement on Sunday after Qatar Airways suspended flights to and from Italy.

Court summons witnesses in PIA illegal appointment case

An accountability court in Islamabad has summoned witnesses in the PIA illegal appointment case on March 20. Judge Mohammad Bashir heard the case on Monday. Former secretary Muhammad Irfan Elahi and Musharraf Rasool appeared in court, while former aviation adviser Sardar Mahtab Abbasi didn’t appear. The court has instructed the witnesses to appear at the next hearing.

26 passengers killed as bus plunges into river in Gilgit

Twenty-six passengers, including women and children, were killed Monday morning after a passenger bus fell into a river in Gilgit-Baltistan. The vehicle was heading to Skardu from Rawalpindi before it fell into the Indus River. There were no survivors.Nine bodies have been taken out while rescue teams from Skardu and Gilgit are on their way to Rondu to retrieve the other bodies.

Illegal residential buildings are being demolished in Karachi

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), district administration and Sindh Building Control Authority have started to demolish illegal buildings in Karachi after Rizvia building collapse. The demolition work has started and it will take a week to finish, according to the KMC senior officer. Any residential plot between 60 and 399 square yards with construction of more than two floors falls into the category of “illegal construction”.

PM Imran Khan promises development for tribal areas

Prime Minister Imran Khan promised development for tribal areas as those areas suffered the most during the terrorism in the country. During a rally, the PM promised the people of Mohmand district a better system of education, healthcare and employment as they were left behind in the race of life. He said that Ehsaas Programme aims to take responsibility of the poor segments of the society. 

Engineer builds a screen-less mobile phone from scratch

A 34-year old space engineer, Justine Haupt who hates Smartphones and texting has built a unique screen-less, classical rotary dialing mobile phone. The phone is wireless and it took her 3 years to build the blue-colored phone fit with a rotary dial taken from an old Trimline phone and an antenna. The device is about 4-inches tall and works on an AT&T prepaid SIM card. Its battery lasts around 24 to 30 hours. 

Actor Nicholas Tucci dies at 38

Actor Nicholas Tucci who became popular for his role in Netflix show “You’re Next” has died after battling cancer at the age of 38. His father Alexandra shared the news of his son’s demise on social media, saying Tucci had wanted to keep his health troubles private so that he could continue to work.
