PTA warns to beware of thumb impression forging mafia

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has warned people to beware of a mafia that has been forging thumb impressions for the issuance of SIM cards used in grey trafficking. Grey trafficking is a route that is legal for one country, but illegal for the alternative end. The mafia steals people’s identities, even their thumb impressions, to commit crimes and it is suspected that the data s being stolen from NADRA. 

PTA blocks over 933,000 websites in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked/processed a total of 933,775 URLs so far. The URLs were related to objectionable or pornographic images, texts and videos on the internet including blasphemy, pornography, judiciary, hats speech etc.  PTA has established a directorate “Web Analysis Directorate” to evaluate complaints received from different quarters and the general public and block objectionable material over the internet.

PTA hires security agency for Cyber-Security Audit of new web monitoring system

The government has involved a security agency to conduct a comprehensive cyber-security audit and vulnerability assessment of the foreign developed Sandvine Inc Web Monitoring System (WMS).Some concerns were raised about possible security vulnerabilities of the foreign-made system. Therefore necessary written guarantees were acquired from the selected vendor and the OEM ensuring that there are no backdoors or cyber-security risks in the system

PTA issues guidelines to report misplaced and stolen phones

Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has issued a guideline in a newspaper to report or block misplaced and stolen phones. PTA has urged the public to report as soon as possible because of the possible misuse of the phone. After reporting mobile phone will be blocked within 16 hours’ time period. While lodging complaint at the helpline 0800-256225, emailing at [email protected] or by visiting PTA headquarters few things will be provided like all IMEIs of mobile phone, number etc. 

Mobile services to be suspended for two days of Ashura

The Pak­istan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that mobile phone services would remain suspended on the 9th and 10th of Muharram for security reasons. The services will be suspended in specified areas of all the cities across the country. While the PTA did not confirm exact timings, the cellular services are expected to remain suspended from morning till 6pm on both days.
