PPP MPA Shahnaz Ansari killed in Naushero Feroz attack

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Shahnaz Ansari was killed Saturday evening in an attack on her in Sindh’s Naushero Feroz. She was shot thrice while she was in Darya Khan Marri for her brother-in-law’s chehlum. An argument reportedly broke out after which some relatives opened fire at her. The police are not releasing any details about the case yet.

Zardari’s brain has shrunk: says PIMS spokesperson

 A new medical board constituted to physically examine former president Asif Ali Zardari has claimed that the PPP leader’s brain has shrunk. According to the PIMS spokesperson, the board headed by Dr Mazhar Badshah carried out a medical check-up of the former president and MRI test was done too. The reason of the MRI report could be age or any other disease.

PML-N and PPP decide to stay away from Fazl’s sit-in

Two major opposition parties — the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) — have announced they would not become a part of the sit-in announced by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The leaders of the two parties said they had already told Maulana in categorical terms that they would only attend public meeting and would not support any sit-in.

Karachi drowns in misery as heavy monsoon rain wrecks havoc

Death toll from rain related incidents has reached six, as monsoon rain wrecks havoc Karachi, drowning sacrificial animals and people alike in misery. Roads across the city are flooded with rainwater, while electricity supply is suspended in certain areas. A rescue operation conducted by the Rangers is currently underway as the megalopolis experienced heavy monsoon showers for a second consecutive day.

Chairman Senate survives no-confidence by Opposition

The opposition remains shocked as its no-trust resolution to de-seat incumbent Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani failed. Out of the 100 senators who cast their vote, 50 were cast in favour of the de-seating resolution, 5 votes were rejected while 45 votes were cast in Sanjrani’s favour. The ruling party and its allies have 36 senators, meaning that 9 opposition senators voted for Sanjrani. There were also 3 abstentions.

32 benami companies owned by Asif Zardari likely to be confiscated

While addressing a press conference, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar has said government is going to take legal action against several benami companies. These 32 companies are allegedly owned by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Once confiscated according to law of Pakistan, money recovered from these companies will be deposited to national exchequer.

Accused in killing of PPP activist among two shot dead at Lahore airport

Two people returning from Umrah, were killed after unidentified personnel opened fire at them at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore. The suspect has been taken into custody by airport security personnel. One of the victims, 28-year-old Zain Rafiq, had police case filed against him for being involved in killing of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) activist Babar Butt.

MNAs barred from using word ‘selected’ for PM Imran Khan

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri has directed MNAs to refrain from using word ‘selected’ for Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Deputy Speaker said that as a member of assembly, the Prime Minister was elected through votes and any insult to any member is intolerable. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has, however, decided to consult lawyers regarding legality of the ban.

Faryal Talpur put under house arrest by NAB

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials have declared Faryal Talpur’s F8 residence in Islamabad as a sub-jail and placed her under house arrest hours after her arrest warrants were issued. Asif Ali Zardari, who is already in jail, and his sister are among the main accused in the case of money laundering of billions through fake accounts.

All provinces should follow Sindh’s lead in fighting HIV, Bilawal

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has appreciated the PPP-led Sindh government’s decision to set aside a Rs1 billion fund for the welfare of HIV infected patients. He also advised all other provinces to follow Sindh’s example. In a tweet, he lamented the negative role of media to highlight selected stories and overlooking the incidents taking place in other provinces.
