Federal govt defers approval of Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway project

The federal government has deferred approval of Rs192 billion worth of Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway project due to proposed changes in its financing model. The project now seeks Rs76 billion from the budget compared to the original plan of constructing the road with private sector funding. The project was initially expected to be completed at a cost of Rs165 billion, which has now increased to Rs191.5 billion.

Lahore to Sialkot journey will only take 41 minutes from 30th March

In a bid to help facilitate the people of Sialkot and Lahore as well as boost the economy, the 91.47-Km long motorway between these two cities is set to open for public on 30th March. As per sources, a total of Rs. 44 billion was spent on the motorway and it will help slash the travel time between the two cities to just 41 minutes.

Failure to implement decision to allow heavy bikes on motorways

Motorcyclists with heavy bikes were given permission to use the motorways in April after the Islamabad High Court had given them the green signal however the decision hasn’t been implemented yet. During the hearing of a case on Monday, the court gave both the National Highway and Motorways Police till December 15 to carry out the verdict. Justice The bikers have been given the go-ahead to drive on motorways, according to  Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani. 

Amended fines ranging from min Rs. 750 to Rs. 10,000 put in place on Motorway

In a latest notification issues by the Ministry of Communications, fines for moving and parking violations on the Motorway have been amended. New and increased fines ranging from minimum Rs. 750 to Rs. 10,000 have been put in place. The fine for over speeding for cars has now been increased to Rs. 2500 from Rs. 750.  The details of the fine are as follows:

Multan-Sukkur (M-5) Motorway formally inaugurated during JCC meeting

During the 9th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting, Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M5) was inaugurated after its completion under CPEC. The 392Km M-5 Motorway is CPEC’s largest transportation infrastructure project. The Six lane Multan-Sukkur Motorway will not only reduce travelling time but speed up growth in industrial and agricultural sector and will contribute to the socio-economic uplift of people in Punjab and Sindh.

Couple charged with ‘public indecency’ after highway video goes viral

A couple has been charged for an act of public indecency after a video of them in a compromising position on the motorway in Sargodha went viral. Filmed from another moving car, the couple can be seen in the backseat of a vehicle on the highway. A probe was carried out by Motorway Police soon after the video went viral.
