Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), district administration and Sindh Building Control Authority have started to demolish illegal buildings in Karachi after Rizvia building collapse. The demolition work has started and it will take a week to finish, according to the KMC senior officer. Any residential plot between 60 and 399 square yards with construction of more than two floors falls into the category of “illegal construction”.
The Sindh government and Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar have one week to demolish all ‘illegal’ buildings in the city. The Supreme Court gave the order on Thursday while hearing cases on reviving the Karachi Circular Railway and removing encroachments in the city. The Railways secretary and advocate-general placed the blame on the federal government for causing the delay.
