48 hotels sealed in Naran, Kaghan and Shogran after staff tests COVID positive

The Mansehra district administration has sealed all hotels in tourist hotspots Shogran, Naran and Kaghan after several Covid-19 cases were reported among staff working at different hotels. The district health department had reported 47 Covid-19 cases at private hotels located in these spots. 48 hotels, including 22 main businesses and their respective branches, had been sealed at all three tourist spots.

Medal awarded to Pakistani doctor in Saudi Arabia for services during pandemic

Pakistani doctor in Saudi Arabia, Zia Ullah Khan Dawar, was awarded a medal by the Kingdom’s health ministry in recognition of his services as one of the “captains” of the COVID-19 team. Dawar has been living in the Kingdom for last four years and is currently working with the kingdom’s health ministry in Jeddah as part of a COVID-19 surveillance and data analysis team.

‘Please scream inside heart’: Japanese riders expected to ride roller coasters calmly

Newly reopened theme parks in Japan are asking riders not to scream on roller coasters. The recommendation against screaming — along with use of masks — is included in guidelines issued by the country’s theme-parks associations as a means of preventing the spread of the coronavirus, and most parks are following suit. Parkgoers have been struggling to comply with the no-screaming requirement.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan tests positive for COVID-19

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, 77, tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday and was admitted to hospital in Mumbai. Amitabh’s son, Abhishek Bachchan has also tested positive for the virus. The father son duo took to Twitter to announce the news and have stated their symptoms are mild. Big B also requested everyone who came in close proximity to him to get tested. 

Hunger will cause more deaths than COVID-19 itself: International body Oxfam

Poverty and hunger resulting from the novel coronavirus crisis can lead to more deaths than the disease itself, Oxfam warned. According to an Oxfam report, The Hunger Virus, Covid-19 is “deepening the hunger crisis in the world’s hunger hotspots” like Venezuela and South Sudan. Additionally, the health crisis is giving birth to new “epicentres of hunger” across the world.

Pakistan’s testing capacity being utilised less than 42%, reveals NHSRC data

For the 18th consecutive day, testing in Pakistan has registered a reduction after hitting a record-high on June 19, according to the data of the ministry of national health services regulation and coordination. The ministry, which provides daily statistics, noted that on July 7 Pakistan carried out 21,951 tests across the country, which is only 30% of its total testing

Remdesivir, anti-COVID drug to be available in the country within three weeks

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) said on Monday that Remdesivir, an effective anti-COVID 19 drug, will be available in the country within three weeks. Drap, after registration of the medicine, had allowed two pharmaceutical companies to import this critical drug. The regulator has given licences to 14 manufacturers for producing the medicine at home.

Emirates makes mandatory for Pakistani travelers to produce a negative PCR test

The Emirates airline has announced that it will be resuming flight operations in Pakistan, however, travelers will be required to produce a negative PCR test. The flight operations from Pakistan and seven other countries will be resumed from June 30th. The airline recently suspended its services after 26 people from a flight from Pakistan tested positive in Hong Kong.

Third COVID-19 case in Corona-free New Zealand traveled from Lahore

New Zealand’s third case of COVID-19 to emerge this week traveled to Auckland from Lahore. The Director-General of Health, Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, confirmed that the man, in his 60s, is in quarantine after coming to New Zealand on Flight NZ124 after transiting through Doha and Melbourne. He stayed at an isolation hotel before being moved to quarantine.
