Three killed and several injured in train accident in Hyderabad

The Lahore-bound Jinnah Express, which had departed from Karachi, rammed into a stationary goods train that was carrying coal and was bound for Yusufwala. The engine of the Jinnah Express came off the tracks but none of the bogies were derailed. Furthermore, the section of the tracks which it was left standing on suffered considerable damage.

Three more European Airlines show confidence in Pakistan

After British Airways resuming its flight operations in Pakistan, airlines from Germany, France and Norway have shown willingness to start flight operations. It has been reported that security teams from the European airlines have conducted security survey’s at Karachi and Islamabad Airports. Pakistan Government has also been contacted by all three airlines in reference to the matter.

Meet Pakistan Army’s third female major general

Major General Nigar Johar Khan, hailing from a Pashtun family, in 2017 became the third woman in Pakistan’s history to hold rank of a major general in Pakistan Army. Apart from being a two-star general in Pakistan Army’s Medical Corps, Nigar is also a sharp shooter. She takes inspiration from her father, who had also served Pakistan Army.

Pakistan among 9 highest contributors to world population

According to United Nations, Pakistan will be among the nine countries where more than half of the world’s population increase by 2050 will be concentrated. Expected to increase from 7.7 billion currently to 9.7bn by 2050, India, Nigeria, Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Egypt and United States will also account for more than half the projected growth of global population.

Lahore’s Dolphin force shoots citizen

Umar Raza, a citizen of Lahore, who was going to a medical store, was reportedly shot and injured in the leg by Lahore’s ‘elite’ Dolphin force after he did not follow the Squad team’s signal to stop. Raza was then taken to a police station instead of hospital and forced to sign a statement that he was a robber.

British authorities agree to extradite Ishaq Dar

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar has claimed that British authorities have agreed to extradite former finance minister Ishaq Dar to Pakistan under a memorandum of understanding. While the response from the UK government was positive, extradition documents for Dar have yet to be signed. Once signed, Dar will be repatriated to Pakistan.

Qatar plans on investing $22 billion in Pakistan

Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is scheduled to visit Pakistan on June 23 and will confirm details of a $22 billion investment in various sectors of Pakistan. Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed has confirmed visit of the Qatari Emir and the investment as well. Earlier, Pakistan had proposed 30 projects to the Qatar government and investors.

$918m loan agreement signed between Pakistan and World Bank

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Hafeez Sheikh oversaw the signing ceremony of three loan agreements. The first tranche worth $400 million is targeted at raising revenue to contribute to a sustainable increase in domestic income by broadening the tax base and facilitating compliance. Another $400m agreement is a higher education development programme pursuing to nurture academic excellence.

Sarfraz claims players are lobbying against captaincy

The 32-year-old Pakistan cricket team captain, Sarfraz Ahmed has accused Imad Wasim, Wahab Riaz, Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik for conspiring against his captaincy and willingly not playing well especially in the India vs Pakistan match. Apparently, the lobby within the team wants Imad Wasim to be the captain after the World Cup.

Around 100,000 trees burnt down in KP wildfires

Many of the trees planted under the Billion Tree Tsunami campaign by KP government in the last two years, have incinerated in wildfires erupting over the past two months. Reportedly, the wildfires erupted after some individuals wittingly set bushes and trees on fire in Swabi, Mardan, and Swat areas of the province, causing huge loss to the ecosystem.
