Government suspends flight operations to Iran

The Pakistani government has decided to suspend all flights to and from Iran after the confirmation of Coronavirus cases in the country, officials from Aviation Division have confirmed. The suspension shall remain enacted until further notice. Following the outbreak of the deadly virus in Iran, the government also suspended bus and train service between Pakistan and Iran.

Saudi Arabia bans Umrah travel until further notice

Following the spread of the deadly coronavirus to other Asian countries, Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended religious visits (Umrah) to the country. It has also banned travelers from the virus-hit countries, including Pakistan. If the situation persists, the Hajj this year could be severely affected. As per details, the Saudi authorities have directed all airlines to inform passengers of the development and await further orders.

Islamabad starts crackdown against stores selling pricey masks

A crackdown has been initiated in Islamabad against those selling surgical masks at high prices amid panic in the country about the coronavirus outbreak. One man was arrested after a medical store in A-11 was raided as he was selling a Rs5 mask for Rs120. Additional Deputy Commissioner Omer Randhawa headed the raids conducted in several of Islamabad’s medical stores.

Hamza Ali Abbasi condemns violence against Muslims in Delhi

Former actor Hamza Ali Abbasi has urged the international community to take notice of the violence against Muslims in India’s capital New Delhi. A mosque was set on fire and 18 people were killed on Tuesday after supporters of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) attacked anti-CAA protest sit-ins. Taking to Twitter, Abbasi slammed the Hindutva activists’ atrocities against the peaceful protesters. He urged the world powers to take notice of human rights violations in India.

Aqsa Ajmal, an Industrial Designer designed a sewing machine for the visually impaired and presented the concept for the Lexus Design Award 2020. Miss Ajmal completed her degree from he NUST School of Art, Design, and Architecture. Even though she struggled with grades but overcame her struggles and became one of the 6 finalists for the award. Her friend, who lost eyesight during a devastating accident, inspired her. 

Tennis star Maria Sharapova announces her retirement

Five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova, one of the world’s most recognisable sportswomen, announced her retirement from tennis. Sharapova said goodbye to tennis in an article for Vogue and Vanity Fair magazines. After mentioning her 28 years of experience in tennis she said that she is ready to  to scale another mountain — to compete on a different type of terrain.

Shane Watson, Vivian Richards invited to Prime Minister House

International cricketing stars Shane Watson and Sir Vivian Richards have been invited to a meeting at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad. Quetta Gladiators have stated. The duo are part of defending champions Quetta Gladiators in the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League. Earlier, the Pakistan had announced that West Indies cricketer Darren Sammy will be awarded a honorary citizenship on March 23.

Pakistan’s first coronavirus case confirmed in Karachi

The first case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Karachi, officials at the Sindh health department said Wednesday.  The 22-year-old patient, Yahya Jaffri recently traveled to Iran from Karachi and has been placed in quarantine at the Aga Khan University Hospital. He traveled to Karachi from Iran in a plane. All passengers traveling with him will be examined by the government.
