Peshawar BRT achieves the world’s highest ranking in BRT service

The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) received the Gold Standard Service award from Technical Committee of the BRT Standards for providing environment-friendly services to the people of provincial capital. This makes Peshawar BRT 1st in the subcontinent, 3rd in Asia and 11th in the world to receive the global recognition. The award was given to KP Minister for Higher Education Kamran Khan Bangash.

Police in hunt of faith healer who hammered a nail into a pregnant woman’s head

A manhunt is under way in Peshawar for a faith healer who allegedly hammered a nail into a pregnant woman’s head. Allegedly, the faith healer had claimed he could guarantee she gave birth to a baby boy. The woman had approached the faith healer after hearing about the practice from a neighbour.

Muslim scholars pray inside a church of Peshawar in a show of solidarity with Christian community

Muslim scholars belonging to different schools of thought on Monday prayed inside a church of Peshawar in a show of solidarity with the Christian community. The act was done to show support for Pastor William Siraj, who was gunned down a day earlier. Special Representative to PM on Religious Affairs Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi said that PM Imran Khan was personally overseeing the matter.

Government to buy residences of Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar in Peshawar considered as heritage sites

The provincial government has decided to purchase the two houses belonging to renowned Indian film artists, Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. The decision came after the owners started demolishing the two buildings, declared as heritage sites in 2016. It caused uproar across the subcontinent and finally prompted the provincial archaeology department to step in and halt the process.

Peshawar hospitals fail to reopen OPDs despite govt order

The Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) of all major hospitals in Peshawar remained closed despite orders by the Supreme Court. According to residents, all entry spots leading to the OPD at Lady Reading Hospital were blocked with tents. The management of the hospital said that they decided to keep the OPDs closed as they had multiple coronavirus patients. 

600 fake sanitiser bottles seized at Peshawar plaza

Six hundred bottles of fake hand sanitiser were seized at a plaza in Peshawar’s Faqirabad. The raid was jointly conducted by the district administration, Peshawar Additional Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Shafiq Afridi and Faqirabad SHO Javed Akhtar. Some arrests were also made. The country is currently facing a shortage of face masks and hand sanitiser amid its battle with the coronavirus.

Khawateen Rozgar Services – A hope for women with ambitions

Khawateen Rozgar Services (KRS) was formed in November 2018 in the city of Peshawar with the purpose of empowering women in Pakistan. It provides job opportunities to women with ambitions, facing trouble to find a job and bearing issues like harassment  at workplace. KRS aim is to connect women with the organisations having a safe environment and has created a database of 9,000 women seeking job with 379 employed. 

CAA bans mobile phone usage at Peshawar airport after viral video

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has banned use of mobile phones at Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar after a video showing passengers coming out of luggage conveyor belt went viral. The circular titled ‘use of mobile phones in restricted areas’ strictly directed employees against using mobile phones in lounges and aprons, adding that strict action will be taken in case of violation.

Eid-ul-Fitr moon sighted: Mufti Popalzai

Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai has announced at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan that the moon of Shawwal has been sighted in Peshawar and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The Federal Government has already announced that Met office predicted that the moon will be sighted in the country on Tuesday, June 4 and Eid will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.
