After 24 long years cricket Australia confirms tour of Pakistan

Australia’s first visit to Pakistan since 1998 has received a final all-clear. The tour, which comprises three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I, has been on the cards since November 2021. Both boards have been making steady progress towards the series going ahead, and now after a final pre-trip security briefing Cricket Australia has given its full endorsement.

Former Sri Lankan Sports minister claims 2011 World Cup was ‘sold’ to India

Sri Lanka “sold” the 2011 World Cup final to India, the country’s former sports minister said on Thursday. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who was sports minister at the time, is the second senior figure to allege the final was fixed, after 1996 World Cup-winning skipper Arjuna Ranatunga. Aluthgamage said he “did not want to disclose” the plot at the time.

Town is Australia names streets after legendary Pakistani cricketers

An upcoming housing estate in Melbourne, Australia has named its streets after legendary cricketers from around the world, including some famous names from Pakistan. The streets in the Rockbank Suburb have been named after Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Inzamamul Haq, Javed Miandad and Shoaib Akhtar. Property Developer Varun Sharma revealed that after naming the streets, the inquiries doubled in number.

Eoin Morgan calls for inclusion of T10 cricket in Olympics

England captain Eoin Morgan voiced his support for the inclusion of T10 cricket in the Olympics. He said that the one thing that makes it so appealing to an Olympic games is the fact that you can play a whole T10 tournament in 10 days. He added that the fans also get to see their favourite players perform in the tournament. 

Pakistan legend Javed Miandad wants death penalty for fixers

Former Pakistani batting legend Javed Miandad suggested death penalty for match fixers. He said that players involved in spot-fixing should be hanged because it is similar to killing someone, and so the punishment should also be on the same lines. Miandad who scored Pakistan’s second highest Test runs with 8832 beleives that an example should be set so that no player even thinks about doing something like this. 

Bangladesh to arrive on Wednesday for first test in Rawalpindi

The Bangladesh cricket team will arrive on Wednesday for the first Test against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The two sides will then practice at the ground over  the next two days before the game starts on February 7 .On Friday, the first session will be from 10am to 12:30pm with an extended lunch break from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Pakistan team will be lead by Azhar Ali while Mominul Haque will lead the Bangladesh team. 

Lahore schools to close early on Pakistan, Bangladesh match days

Schools in Lahore will close at 11am on January 24 and 25 due to T20 matches between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Gaddafi Stadium, according to a spokesperson for the Punjab Education Department. The Bangladesh cricket team arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday to play a three-match T20I series that starts Friday. Lahore will be hosting all the three T20I games of the series at Gaddafi Stadium on January 24, 25 and 27.

Sri Lankan cricket team to visit Pakistan for test series

Sri Lankan cricket team that had to leave in a helicopter from Gaddafi Stadium Lahore following a horrifying terrorist attack will be visiting Pakistan this December for a 2-match Test series. Previously, senior players like Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal who refused to play in Pakistan, are now willing to visit the country. Pakistan .Lahore and Karachi are all set to host test matches after 10 years.

Mohammad Akhtar – the cricket fan, who had travelled three hours to enjoy the Pakistan vs Australia match, was captured looking utterly disappointed as Asif Ali dropped a fairly easy catch. Akhtar’s expressions became fodder for a viral meme. People on social media used it to express their disappointment for everything from cricket to politics to every daily life matter.
