Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a Pakistani-origin Canadian filmmaker, has made history by becoming the first woman and first person of colour to ever direct a Star Wars movie. It was revealed on Friday that Walt Disney Co has plans for three new films, including Obaid-Chinoy’s, which will feature Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey in a story set after the 2019 film, The Rise of Skywalker.

Balochistan to develop seven resorts along coastline to promote tourism

The Balochistan government has decided to construct 7 tourist resorts at places along the 770 km long coastline in the province and restore the management of existing resorts. The meeting of the governing body of the Balochistan Coastal Development Authority (BCDA) made this decision. Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo chaired the meeting through a video link.

Supreme Court deems ECP’s decision to postpone polls as unconstitutional, fixes May 14 as the date for polls

The Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to postpone polls to the Punjab Assembly till Oct 8 was unconstitutional and fixed May 14 as the date for polls in the province. The ECP had on March 22 announced that the elections in Punjab would be held on October 8. The date was earlier set on April 30, in consultation with the president.

Pakistan Peoples Party on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to its leader Nabeel Gabol for making an insensitive comment about rape in a podcast. In the video of the podcast, which went viral on social media, Mr Gabol used the example of rape to talk about being overpowered by the opposition and said some seriously disturbing things like “when rape is imminent, just enjoy it”.

First Pakistani completes six major marathons in the world to win Abbott Six Star Medal

Dr Salman Khan became the first Pakistani to complete six major marathons in the world which consists of runs in Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York City under the Abbott World Marathon Majors. A total of 11 Pakistanis or American and British citizens of Pakistani origin participated in the Tokyo marathon on March 5, including five women.

Parvez Elahi gets appointed as the president of the PTI

‘Grade 21 or 22 bureaucrat’s daughter received Rs720 million in salaami at her wedding’ : Khawaja Asif

Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif has claimed that a Pakistani bureaucrat’s daughter received Rs720 million (USD $2.8m) at her wedding in salaami. Not revealing the identity of the bureaucrat, the minister also claimed that a whopping Rs 1.2 billion (USD $4.6m) were collected in salaami at the wedding of the first daughter of the same bureaucrat.

Former army general arrested for ‘hate speech’ and provoking government employees

Police on Monday arrested former army general Lieutenant General (retired) Amjad Shoaib on allegations of engagement in “hate speech” and provoking government employees against the administration. Amjad Shoaib was arrested from his residence by the Islamabad police under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
