Brazil sued Facebook for yet another privacy breach

Earlier this week Brazil announced to fine Facebook $1.6 million for privacy breach.  According to the Consumer Protection department of the ministry, that information of 443,000 people had been shared with one of the apps called “thisisyourdigitallife”. The ministry claims that the data was shared with the app for very concerning reasons.

Human head transplant will be possible by 2030

A former neurosurgeon, who worked with the UK’s National Health Service claims human head transplants will become a reality by 2030. According to Dr Bruce Matthew, the revelation came to him while he was working on a science-fiction novel with futurist author Michal J Lee. He admits that the future process will be tricky because shifting the spinal cord intact is impossible.. 

Turkey’s leading defense company opens its first office in Pakistan

Turkey’s leading defense giant, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has opened its first office in Pakistan at the country’s National Science & Technology Park. The technopark was inaugurated by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who also visited the TAI office. TAI’s deal is to sell 30 T129 ATAK helicopters to Pakistan and the company’s aim is to positively conclude the ongoing process. 

Travis Kalanick cuts all ties with Uber

Travis Kalanick, co-founder Uber  is leaving the board effective Dec. 31. Kalanick was removed as CEO in 2017 but remained a director. He has dumped practically all his stake in Uber since the company’s stock lockup period expired in November. It’s unclear how much Kalanick’s total stake is worth, but the latest public filings show it’s about $2.5 billion. 

Facebook to develop its own operating system

Facebook, in an attempt to become self-sufficient, has announced that the company is working on an operating system (OS) of its own- built completely from scratch, according to the company’s  executive, Ficus Kirkpatrick. The social media giant has kept the release date of the OS under the wraps for now, however, Facebook might also be working on some hardware running the new OS in the near future.

Eight-year-old is highest paid YouTuber, earns $26m a year

Eight-year-old Ryan Kaji earned $26 million in 2019 on his YouTube channel, making him the highest-paid Youtuber, according to a list published by Forbes magazine. His channel “Ryan’s World”  that was initially called as “Ryan ToysReview” was launched by his parents in 2015 and mostly consisted of unboxing videos. The channel has also evolved as Ryan ages, now offering more educational videos in addition to the toys.

Muslim doctor invents ‘Disposable Hijab’ for religion and passion

Dr. Farah Roslan, a muslim doctor who hails from Malaysia has invented and introduced the world’s first disposable hijabs. In a bid to alleviate health standards for doctors, Dr. Farah Roslan came up with the concept of disposable hijabs. The project of disposable hijabs did not cost much and the NHS hopes the product will be available for doctors by December.

Islamabad police to introduce body worn cameras

Islamabad Capital Territory Police has decided to use body-worn cameras at checkpoints in the capital for enhanced security and better implementation of law and order. The capital Police has arranged 20 cameras to start with and the footage will be connected to the Safe City Project.The initiative is a pilot project to test the performance of these cameras and are sponsored by JS bank. 

WhatsApp will stop working for several smartphones from 2020

The popular messaging app, Whatsapp will stop working for many smartphones around the globe from 2020. It will stop operating on Windows smartphones by the end of this month as well as on Android and iPhone devices in the coming months. Android version 2.3.4 and older users will be unable to continue using using the app whereas iPhone users with iOS 8 will be unable to create new accounts or verify the existing one. 

Google wants people with down syndrome to help improve voice recognition

Google, the search engine giant has asked people with Down syndrome (DS) to submit voice recordings in its latest attempt to increase accessibility. This is in order to train its voice-recognition AI to understand unique speech patterns of the DS patients as it can be slightly inconvenient for them to use. In order to remedy that,  Google has partnered with the Canadian Down Syndrome Society so that it can acquire voice recordings from hundreds of people.
