Netflix for half an hour emits the same amount of CO2 as a 6 km drive

According to Maxime Efoui-Hess of French think tank the Shift Project, watching a half-hour Netflix show would lead to emissions of 1.6 kilograms of carbon dioxide that is equivalent to driving 3.9 miles (6.28 kilometres).Gary Cook of Greenpeace mentioned that as the video file size is increasing more energy is required to maintain a system that is ready to stream this video to your device at a moment’s notice.

Working long hours can make you go bald

Long working hours significantly help in development of  alopecia which leads to baldness, according to a research conducted at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea with 13,391 male participants. Maximum incidences of baldness  were found in men who worked for a longer time as compared to others. Stress was found the most prominent culprit which triggers damage to hair follicles.

Boeing aircraft breaks world record with a 780-day flight

Boeing-made space plane touched down at Kennedy Space Center after 780 days in space, breaking its previous record of 717 days, 20 hours and 42 minutes. The number of expected days from the reusable aircraft were 240 but surprisingly it lasted three times more than expected. According to Randy Walden, Director, USAF Rapid Capabilities Office, the aircraft met all mission objectives. Due to secrecy as the Boeing made this record  alongside the US Air Force, details on how the craft achieved this milestone are scarce. 

Solar panel technology can be used to fight cancer

A recent study has formulated a new method to detect and attack cancer cells with the help of technology usually used for solar power. According to the study, published in Scientific reports, significant improvement was seen in light-activated fluorescent dyes for disease analysis, image-guided surgery and site-specific tumour treatment. Prior to this, fluorescent dyes were primarily used in therapeutics and diagnostics only, not for treatment.

Saudi Arabia to issue new host visa for families of expats

The Saudi government is going to add a new visa category ‘Host Visa’ in its newly-introduced regime. It  will allow expatriates in the kingdom to invite their family members on personal sponsorship for up to 90 days and will be free to host their guests anywhere. The authorities are working on the new visa mechanism which will cost about 500 Saudi Riyals for a year. 

Tax Returns filed per day in 2019 have increased by 127%

Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Syed Shabbar Zaidi announced the tax returns filed per day in 2019 have increased by 127% on average as compared to last year. Tax returns filed in 2019 till October 25 stands at 918,027, as compared to 585,209 tax returns filed in the same period last year according to Zaidi’s tweet. Personal interactions between FBR employees and businessmen will not be allowed soon. 

KP faces a flour crisis as Punjab cuts wheat supply

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is staring at a possible flour crisis as its wheat supply has been cut down by the Punjab government. Due to a sudden disruption of wheat supply the flour prices have increased by Rs. 80 for a 20kg bag in the province. KP receives 95 percent of its wheat supply from Punjab, which has been completely cut for the past couple of days without any reason given by the Punjab government, according to Muhammad Iqbal, chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association KP.

Student from Karachi creates edible plastic

A student from Karachi University has created environment-friendly plastic from a marine plant. This type of plastic is edible and can be consumed without any harmful effect after mixing it with any fluid such as water.The only drawback of using it as shopping bags commercially is that it cannot hold high-temperature liquids like tea, because it dissolves in hot solutions. However, cold liquids like milk can be carried in these bags for short periods of time.

Investors betting against Elon Musk’s electric-auto maker Tesla collectively lost an estimated $1 billion-plus on Thursday as the company’s stock headed for its best day on Wall Street since 2013.
